How do you plan on making your first impression on your future med school peers(we will all get in sooner or later)?

My buddy and I are considered meat heads by some of our peers at school because we love to work out. I think they don't like us because we cut up in the back of class and still whip their tail in the class. Anyways, he said that the first weekend we are at UAB the we are going to challenge any other first years to a tag team wrestling match...to establish dominance. Haha...of course it is a joke but what do you plan to do?

I, for one, will devote full time to bragging about how easy undergrad was for me.

Listen, I hear people on these forums complain about how much they hater gunners and what not. They say that people will try and sabatoge their organic chemistry experiments. I have never heard of anything like that happening at my school, but we do have pre-meds that are pretty clique-like. I am sure it is that way everywhere. All I know is some people should lighten up sometime and realize there is more to life right now than getting into medical school.

I try not to get caught up in the medicine 24/7 mode like a lot of the people people I am around tend to do. I like to sit back have a good time and then when it is crunch time, get it done. People tend to resent you when you do well and do not stress over doing well in the process.

So don't think I am trying to sit and brag about how easy things are for me. All I am saying is that I tend to do better than the people who hate me because I am not stressing out and acting totally serious all of the time(I bet they would do better to if the had a little fun every now and then). They don't like that I'll look at the person sitting next to me in class and say, "This class sucks!" and then look and my buddy next to me and say ,"Let's go max out!" and leave. We do it to be funny and try and lighten everyone up.

I know there are people of all different types out there and if it wasn't like that things would get boring. I keep it loose, that's who I am and I am sure there will be plenty of people like that in your respective medical school classes. Good luck to everyone and maybe some of you will be with me at UAB and I can try and make you laugh one day too.

If you want to do well there is nothing wrong with that. But don't act like a douche bag and brag either directly or indirectly about it. In fact, don't let anyone know how well you are doing, and just enjoy your personal success. Trust me, this will make you a lot more friends in the long run, amongst people you are doing both better and worse than.

And don't get too cocky about how well you are going to do in med school, especially considering you haven't even started. Almost every person in your class will be smart and will have done well in undergrad. You'd be amazed how many "super students" freak out because they are average at best in med school. Overall, I think you need to learn humility, and med school just might teach you that. If not, then some attending will eat you up and spit you out once he/she detects how smart you think you are.

That picture is wrong. In the original nintendo game, Mario could only throw fireballs when he was wearing that clean white suit, not the regular red one. I believe mario came in three forms: one, where he was a dwarf, one with the red suit and one with the white suit and fireball power.

Do you mean the original nintendo game, Super Mario Brother, for NES (nintendo entertainment system) in the mid 80'. I think the mario in that game can throw fireball in a brown suit after eating the mushroom. Then again, most of the sdn users were too young to remember.

Who said it was? Look how touchy a bunch of us are! Did I claim that I was going to dominate medical school? No! I am going to work my ass off and have fun doing it though. I am not going to be the guy who can't have fun because that is not who I am.

Sure there will be people who are bad ass students in medical school. I mean if you look at the UAB section of the acceptance thread, ShadAU(one of my best friends who sits in the back with me) made a 40 on the MCAT. He is a bad ass student. Do I try to beat him in classes? No! All I worry about is what I can control...which is me. I wish that everyone in my classes would make A's. I also wish they would come out to the bars or make field trips to Biloxi with me for some relaxation.

I promise if you were ever around me you would smile and laugh a little more if you don't already.

I think most all of us played a lot of mario as kids. I'm pretty young, 20, and have played quite a bit.

Oh and on the working out part, if you read correctly, I said people have called my friends and me meatheads because we do workout a lot. Does that make me special? Nope, never said it did. I just meant it was ironic because the people who call us meatheads don't do as well as we do. I guess we are destined to orthopedic surgeons.

Do I think I am cool or something of that sort? Nah. I am just different than some of the people in my classes. What does that make me? Different. No better, no worse.

ok listen up, when he ate the normal muchroom, he grew, the green mushroom was an extra life, and when he ate the FLOWER, he could shoot fireballs. I might be young, but that doesnt mean i dont still break out my NES every once in a while 😀

I think I'd just try to be myself and not worry about what first impression I'm making. Because I simply don't care what the other students think about me, or about class cohesiveness, or any of that crap. I'm just there to get an education. If I happen to meet some people that I click with, fine. If not, then fine.

I assume if I find a group it will probably be somewhat like my undergrad group of friends...all hard-drinking, heavily smoking, bitter-and-cynical-beyond-their-years types.
