In case you didn't already know, OptomCAS will mail the first batch of completed/verified applications to schools this Friday. These applications are available to schools in electronic form today.

Be sure to complete your supplemental application and mail that to us as soon as possible so we can match it up with your OptomCAS application when received. You can download WesternU's supplemental application at http://prospective.westernu.edu/optometry/apply.

Good luck everyone!

Thank you for the information! It was rumored on these forums that the first batch would be mailed 9/11 - was unaware they were available electronically today though.

Perhaps you can answer this question; what applicant info. have the optometry schools had access to up until today? Some began e-mailing their supplemental app. forms to "competitive" applicants weeks ago. How would they know who is competitive without having our OptomCAS applications?

Good question- however I am still confused as to why the "first batch of applications are available to schools in electric form today"? If I have received supplementals already because deemed "competitive" doesn't that mean that schools have had online access to my application already? Does this mean that you can print them out today? Sorry I guess I'm confused on why schools even need to have the applications mailed out to them if they have all of the information online?

Once an applicant has submitted all the required OptomCAS documents, OptomCAS considers them "complete and ready for verification." Schools are then able to access the entire application with the exception of verified grades and calcuated GPAs if that hasn't been done yet. Some schools have looked at the electronic applications and mailed supplemental applications based on the information available at that time.

Sorry. I should probably clarify just a bit. OptomCAS will make an official "mailing" available to schools once each week. The first official "mailing" is available electronically today. Each official mailing will include all applicants who have submitted all the necessary OptomCAS documents AND OptomCAS has verified all their grades and calcualted their GPA. If schools look at the electronic listing of "complete" applications before they are moved to an official mailing, some applicants will have GPA calculations and some won't.

Each school has their own procedures for processing the applications and mailing supplementals. Some may print the OptomCAS applications out directly from the portal, some may download them directly from the portal into their system, while others may wait for the paper applications.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion 🙂

Thanks- this definately does clarify

Although I am quite glad that applications are finally being sent out, I am still a bit perturbed about optomCAS virtually negating the hard work and effort some of us put in to complete our applications in the first week or so, for early admission. 😡
