Here is a part of an email from Indiana University School of Dentistry I got this morning. Funny thing is, I talked to them a week ago and they said I would be fine. Go figure!

A special panel of our Admissions Committee thoroughly reviewed all aspects of your application and has concluded that, at this time, your application is not competitive for our limited number of interview appointments. Consequently, we have withdrawn your application from further consideration for the entering class of 2010.

wow, that was pretty quick. makes me wonder what they looked and did not like from your app.

do you mind sharing stats? (you don't have to if you do not want to)

😵 Sorry to say but a 12 in a section... certainly will automatically filter you out from the applicant pool. Are u going to retake the DAT in Sept?

Yes, I plan on retaking the DAT. Told them that, and they told me not to worry about the 12 in the math section. Said they don't look at it, so, I'll have to call them tomorrow to find out.

Good luck with your retake! I think another red flag from your stats.. was your 17 in bio. Bio.. is prob one of the most important components of science.. and TS is usually heavily weighed.. and 17 is below average :\

no worries i got denied too...18 AA 21 PAT but a 15 in QR oh well

Another poster made a similar thread. Apparently, he/she got this early rejection letter too.
What are your DAT scores? If you had anything below 18 that might explain your rejection since many schools have strict cutoffs, which they will follow specially if you're an out of state applicant!
Don't lose hope just yet! Rejection letters are just a part of this whole process. If it makes you feel any better, I got tons of them last year:laugh:

i guess i should wait for mine too. i got rejected by them twice and i talked to them before applying. but the way i c it, My rejection will come soon. I feel itt:scared::scared::scared:

I wish applying to dental school just like applying to undergrad.

Why apply to a school that has already rejected you twice?

DAT isn’t everything…ut, do you have EC’s backing you?? Good ones…floor rep for hall council doesn’t count, lol…

Maybe they told you that your scores are okay just so they can collect the secondary app fee hahaha jk

I was rejected at IU in July last cycle before they even asked for a secondary app fee. Although I am out-of-state, I did my undergrad at IU-Bloomington, but apparently it didn't make a difference. I had straight 20's in every section of the DAT and a 3.4 GPA. They told me my GPA was too low and that I needed a Master's to be competitive.
Thanks for nothing!

You are complaining because they gave you good advice?

I actually had just finished a post-bacc program with a 3.8 at that point, so my 'complaint' was that they clearly had glossed over my file, and that despite the IU pre-health office's assurance that having completed my undergraduate degree at IU would count for something, it did not.

At least they did not lead you on with false hope throughout the fall.

Maybe the degree did account for something, but another object counter balanced the IU degree...
