Hey I just signed up for my first semester at UMass Amherst and Im in Biology 100, Calculus I, Writing, and Honors Chemistry.

I have a lot of "pre med" courses all in this semester and Im wondering if it was a bad idea to take the honors chemistry? Should I take the regular one instead and have a better chance of getting an A? I dont really know how much harder the honors version will be.

Thanks

I don't know about Amherst but at Lowell it's a completely separate class and it's much more difficult (I figure it's the same at both schools). The content isn't much different but more in depth.

Don't ask me why I am just getting around to answering this, but I just graduated from UMASS Amherst. Anyways, I would suggest taking the non-majors general chemistry (Chem 111/Chem112). The honors version includes a LOT of mandatory busy work (OWL's), so although it isn't more difficult, it is far more time consuming.

Enjoy UMASS Amherst, it's a great school.

Many med schools prefer that when there's a choice you should choose the course that is intended for majors.

Just keep all partying on the back burner until at least after midterm 1, when you have an idea of how you're doing...

As a Freshman that was the last thing on my mind.. Take regular Chem

agreed. do whatever you can to make A's! unless you're going to be a chem major and the honors class is beneficial in some way (ie passes you out of quant like it did at my uni) don't take it.
