Overall GPA: 3.35
Science GPA: 3.16
DAT score: 25 AA / 24 TS / 27 PA / 27 QR / 21 RC / 30 Bi / 23 GC / 23 OC
State of Residence: Texas
Major: Biology
Reapplicant: No
Nontrad: No
Shadowing Experience: None, but recently got a job as a dental assistant (100+ hours now)
Volunteering Experience: 300+ at my church

My GPA and DAT score might seem quite discrepant.

I had a regrettable college life, so I had to study exceptionally hard to receive a decent DAT score. You know, to show that I have changed and all.

However I was told many times that I will barely get an interview with that abysmal GPA...

I know that my GPA is awful, but do I seriously have zero chance even with that DAT score?

Here are the schools I've applied to so far:
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso-Hunt School of Dentistry
Texas A&M University College of Dentistry
University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston
University of Texas School of Dentistry at San Antonio
Howard University College of Dentistry
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Dental Medicine
Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois
Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine
University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry
California Northstate University

your gpa is not awful
did you have an upward trend?
are you URM?

Year-by-year GPA trends will help, but you probably will still need some postbac/SMP work. But I agree... just 100 hours taken in the last year is not enough to tell me you really know what dentistry is about.

Here is a bit more detail about myself:

The reason I lack shadowing hours is because I chose to become a dentist very recently.
I started studying for the DAT around May, took the test on August, and started applying in September.
Of course, I tried my best to have some shadowing opportunities over the summer, but every single dentist I met straight up said no... Sad.
That is why I got a job as a dental assistant, to have some idea of what dentistry is like.
And no, I'm not an URM since I am an Asian American 🙁
