The upper level said to me before he left for breakfast:
1. if you say to yourself "oh s#it" call me
2. if you say to yourself "oh f#ck" call the attending

During training, one of my attendings liked to say, "Call me if CPR is not working." One night she got a call saying "the boys (surgeons) are having a little trouble" and indeed, CPR was not working. The patient (young male, GSW to chest) was ultimately saved.
