Dear future doctors and colleagues,

As you should have figured from the title of the thread, I’ve been a long time lurker on these forums (about 4 years) and recently decided to get off the sidelines and into the action. I am also well familiarized with the search button, the archives and all that which have been invaluable tools up until this point. Nothing, however, beats a customized response and so if any of you have the time I would really appreciate feedback on my competitiveness for the upcoming cycle. Here they are.

Ethnicity: white/samoan
oGPA: 3.47
sGPA: 3.21
DAT: AA 22 TS 23 PAT 17 (notable scores are 24 in RC, 30 in OC and 16 in QR)
UTHSCSA formula: about 13.0 even
Extracurriculars: A LOT! Three years of research, dental volunteering, fundraising, athletics, tutoring etc
AADSAS submit: July 14
AADSAS mailing: July 30
Schools applied: UW, USC, UOP, UCSF, WestU, MidW, ASDOH, UK
Supplementary Apps so far: all except UOP, USC and UW
Interviews: MidW

My two biggest questions are:

1) With my GPA and DAT will my scores be competitive for the upcoming cycle?
2) Was my submit date for AADSAS not early enough given my stats?

Again, if you guys can impart your wisdom given my situation it would be GREATLY appreciated and help ease some nerves. If not, then I thank you anyways for the years of indirect advice you all have given me. I look forward to any replies.

You're going to be just fine! Concentrate on the upcoming interview.

GPA is slightly lower (especially sGPA) than the average but you made up for it on the DAT. Overall, you're a competitive applicant. In my mind, I think you'll be in somewhere.

By the way, your application was not a late submission. Any time before August is considered early.

Feel free to contribute when you can. Let us know what you hear from those schools. Thanks! Good luck!

well, if you've already calculated your UTHSCSA, you have as good of an idea as to where you stand as the rest of us. your DAT looks great, however, look out for schools with a cutoff for your 16 in QR. some schools it isn't even important, but make sure the ones you're applying to won't auto-reject you.

your submit date is good, not super early, but it doesn't look like it'll hurt you at all. now you just have to rely on your interview skills! good luck at midwestern, i just scheduled my interview there as well.

we all need a little reassurance, hope this helped.

Those are some good stats, your DAT and GPA are similar to mine actually, and you have some good extracurriculars working for you too. You should be fine! It's a little early still so you will probably get interviews at more places.

Yeah I saw you're stats Nightman and almost did a double take as to how similar they were to mine (plus Its Always Sunny is only the greatest show ever).

On UOP's website it says that GENERALLY their cut off for all sections is a 17 which sort of leaves a grey area as to what they will automatically dismiss. I'll definently try calling them again but do you guys think that my 16 QR would constitute an automatic rejection?

That show is tight! I was going to pick Dayman as my username but that was taken already.

Yeah, that is pretty close, QR is usually one of the less important sections, and you are only 1 below, and your other scores are so good (especially Ochem, damn!), hard to say. I think calling them would be the best idea like you said

Great stats! what state do u consider to be your resident state? also I would appreciate if you could provide info on when did u receive U of W secondary?

I havent heard back about a secondary from UW yet just an email which said that they have all of my materials and are ready to review them. I got this a few days ago.

I was also wondering if schools actually use the UTHSCSA or if its just a speculative formula that predents invented based of past acceptances? I feel like any combination of your AA, sGPA and oGPA could result in a comparitive ranking unless it specifically weights the "more important" sections.

Also, what percentage of the applicant pool do you think is on SDN (a rough estimate I in no way expect anyone to actually crunch the numbers)? People on here have some unbelievable stats which is why I was nervous enough to post mine in the first place.

I'll say no at the moment, because sometimes schools bend the rules a little to accommodate you, especially if they feel your application meets almost all the requirements. There are special circumstances. However, I'm not guaranteeing my information. Definitely try calling!

Besides, QR sections seems to be of least importance to most schools...but it can definitely help your score, so I wouldn't be quick to judge it as unimportant as of now. It's always good to be cautious - on a moderate level, of course 😉.

I have heard definately that NOVA and UCSF do not care about the QR...not sure about any others
