I've just started qbank and am aitting at a 45%. 🙄 I am taking the step at the end of june. I know that there is time, but just wondering...what was the fist time score of other sdn members. was it as bad as mine?

cheers

How many questions have you done? With this year's Qbank, you can compare your performance with other people's quite easily. Aim for at least an average for now. You have plenty of time to improve.

Are you doing all the questions randomly or studying first and then just testing yourself over stuff you've studied?

I just started qbank today, randomly 50 questions. I was contemplating whether i should just study all the material for one section and then test myself at the end of the block or study the material, test myself a bit everyday, along with 50 random questions.

Hi, I found this old thread where someone went from scoring 50s on qbank to a 250 on the actual exam...so I wouldn't worry about it too much right now and think of it as motivation to improve. Also don't worry too much about comparing with others, as long as you feel you're learning, then your score is probably going to go up.

you get stronger with each day that passes. yeah, its a hell of a lot of info but we all get through it. your qbank scores WILL get better. 👍

:luck: to all of us 2008's 😎

Hey Arsenic... Good luck with Step 1 .....when r u taking it? We are doing that immuno stuff now that you guys were doing on our tour to your school

To the OP: Chill. Sometimes you've gotta start low early because you haven't reviewed everything.

I've done 25% of Qbank and I'm sitting at a disappointing 59% (seems disappointing... I really have no idea what that would work out to on the step though). I've been taking them without studying anything specific before and then reviewing as I go. 20 questions at a time (1%) on the tutor mode seems to work for me.

Finals this friday and then board review hard for 5 weeks and I'm hoping I can get that score up to 70%... guess we will see. It is painful how little pharm and micro I know, I'm hoping reviewing those two along with path will give me a bump.

I wish I could find something credible that compares Qbank%s to actual scores. I've seen a few threads that claim >70% is what folks >230 were getting. Anyone know?

Kaplan says:

<55% = danger of failing
55-60 = likely low pass
60-65 = likely pass
65-70 = likely high pass
>70 = likely high score

I think that QBank sort of correlates with your real score, but there are many outlyers. If you can get a high score on QBank on random blocks then you will very likely do well on your exam. However, the converse isn't necessarily true because QBank tests more trivia and the board tests more thinking and concepts.

For instance, QBank will say a woman has an ovarian tumor and ascites and ask you what the name of the syndrome is. The boards will ask you about the mechanism of fluid accumulation in the abdomen.

There is a much better correlation between the NBME assessments and your real score than there is with QBank.

Thanks. Thats exactly what I was looking for.

Is this posted by Kaplan somewhere or were you told this?

Told this by Kaplan during Kaplan course. Also, going by that, my Qbank score correlates perfectly with my NBME score, so it seems legit. Anyway, Kaplan should know right? 😉

How many of you are actually going through the explanations to the answers in qbank. I just finished with qbank (100% of it) and ended up with a final average of 59%, but Ive been going through the explanations and taking notes. now that I am going through First Aid (more thoroughly these days), i find that most of the answers are there and I'm also going over all the explanations. hopefully that will be enough for me to atleast get through this exam 🙄

So I just took a full length practice Qbank. We're still a week away from finishing second year and the only subject I have fully reviewed thus far is Histology. I'm taking the exam June 9 (in 6 weeks).

My score was a 63%.

I'm actually not too discouraged because I literally have not covered anything in depth at all yet. (Not to worry, I have a very good study schedule ahead of me that I'm ready to tackle.)

Am I right to not be horrified?

I'd say you're sittin' pretty to start out. I think a CBSSA would be the best initial gauge, but that score's great for not having started yet.

That's pretty good. Just remember when you really begin your studying to keep it very focused (used FA topics to help you pick out what's high yield), also look for Big Frank's posts (he has some really good advice), do as many questions as you can, and definately do as many of the nbme assessments as you can. There is a total of 4 (45$ bucks each 👎 , but they are WORTH it). I know some people only did one or two, but in my opinion do them all if you can. Begin with the first one and do it early in your studies because it will give you a good idea of what board questions are like. And, then spread the others out over your aloted study time. When you feel confident with certain subjects do not waist to much time with them and start fine tuning and hitting your weak points. Use Kaplan, your perception, AND the NBME analysis to help you focus on weak points.

By the time you get close to your exam leave at least one of the NBME assessments and take it a few days prior to the real exam but you must be prepared to face the score that pops up, it will either discourage you or boost your confidence. If you are doing consistently well, then dont be afraid and take that risk to do the final nbme assessment a few days before the real thing. Like I said, it will do wonders for your confidence which will also play a key factor in how well you do. Hope this helps and Good luck.

Is that Kaplan scale for your cumulative score or you scores prior to going into the exam?

hey. that just means those who memorize FA cold won't have a problem.

FA is not easy to memorize at all though.... 😱

I started my first few in the 70s 👎 . I then was crackin high 80s occasional mid 80. My final score on a 1st time through the whole q bank with all random tests every time was an 84%. 👍

My nBME 1 was 800 ( 265+) 2weeks b4
NBME 2 was 700 (256) 1 week b4

Actual step 1 : 264 :meanie:

well, what this says is that you know your sh1t pretty well to boot.

this doesn't mean that people should memorize qbank and expect to hit a similar score.

Where does one get these MBME assessments?
I know you can purchase them through the NBME website. Not sure if there are other ways to get them.

Anyone know how to get the USMLE step 1 CD from the test makers we are supposed to get after we schedule the exam?
