So I just finished my first week of classes. Here is how each class went:
General Chemistry 2 Lecture - So this class seems tough. Our lecturer, who is also my academic advisor (chemistry major), is one tough cookie. To get guaranteed at least an A-, we must get 990 out of 1100 points. A 110 point leaway is okay I guess, but I need to kick ass on her exams and final. I was also introduced to the clicker, which sounds like fun. P.S. My teacher takes no bull****, and I love that about her. She is great, funny, and seems like she wants us to learn the material. I am really excited to learn chemistry from someone as enthusiastic as herself.
General Chemistry 2 Laboratory - Wow, my lab instructor is a forensic pathologist with a doctorate and he is also a toxicology professor. He is really cool and is very philosophical, like "we are all human" and on the first day, he warned us that our lecturer is not a walk in the park. I am excited for lab, which I know, it is a weird thing to say.
General Chemistry 2 Recitation - Oh hell no. There are like 5 people in my class that I cannot stand, like seriously. They are the pre-med gunner types that I absolutely loathe. They answer all the questions, try to make others look bad by making themselves look smart, and so forth. I hope I am not paired with this one kid for lab, or else I will verbally beat the **** out of him if he tries something. A lot of smart people are in there too, so I can benefit from them. Also, my lecturer is my recitation instructor, so I believe I have the upper hand, but she is making her own quizzes obviously, and that might be a disadvantage compared to easier professors. I'm prepared though, because she is my advisor, and I want to show her I am not just another dumb student she has to teach.
Calculus 2 - This class was intimidating going into. The professor is awesome and he does many examples, but he is boring at times. I definitely need to put the most time in this class, especially since I am a chemistry major, I need to take it as a pre-requisite for Calculus 3.
Arabic 2 - The professor is amazing. He is an Iraqi (so am I), so I feel for him, lol. Big difference from Arabic 2 is that there are actually Arabs in this class that are fluent in the language, which includes the ability to read and write. There are like 6 non-speakers who I commend, because it is tough. But what annoys me is the professor is too gentle and would rather talk louder than tell some of the fluent speakers to shut up so the rest of us can learn. I took it upon myself to tell them to SHUT. THE. ****. UP. And this was only Class #2. I don't play around, and someone better recognize.
Ethics - No comment. We read, discuss, and get our blood pressures raised when some Atheist decides he has the right to dog my beliefs. I respect yours if you respect mines.
OVERALL - Students need to realize their places. There are those who are disrespectful, those who answer every question (even when someone else is called), and those who take it all too seriously, like it's the end of the world. This semester will prove a challenge due to the fact that none of my classes are on a curve, but that only makes me want to work that much harder to prove that I don't need a curve. I am above the curve, lol.
GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE!
