So I've been accepted to medical school overseas and so I'm a little confused as to what I should take for my first year? I know the typical response is not to take books and stuff, BUT I am asking more about like bed sheets, clothing attire, etc. Like the necessities, I would like to get an idea of what I should take and what is better to just leave behind, etc. I know this is a very immature questions, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I already know the place I'm going to requires a good raincoat, but more info is always helpful.

I'm going to Ireland if that information helps!

Thanks!

To check your bags, the airline will probably charge you more than it would cost to buy everything new. So minus whale throw some clothes in a carry on and visit the Irish Wal-Mart (which is probably Wal-Mart) when you arrive.

Oh and a cast iron skillet can replace about 75% of your kitchen utensils.

I brought a couple textbooks with me, but you'll find they're not too expensive on Amazon. Some "international" editions are even cheaper.
I got all the necessities, like bed sheets etc, at IKEA over my first weekend. If you have room in your bag, go ahead and bring a set so you'll be comfortable when you first settle in.

No, there's no Wal-Mart haha
I guess this is more of a personal thing, so if you have any specific questions and wondering if you might find it here in Ireland, feel free to send me a message. What I consider essential may not be the same for you. I really only brought my clothes (definitely more expensive here, although if you're American, the euro won't be as bad - I'm Canadian).

I'd say get a cast iron for its purposes but also a stainless steel pan. I can leave the stainless steel soaking in a dirty sink for a week and then throw it in the dishwasher and not worry too much about it while that will probably ruin the cast iron.

OP, just look at things that you use on the daily and buy them when you get there. I think that would probably be cheaper than shipping all of your stuff over. You'll probably be living minimally for a while but you'll get more stuff as you go along. I didn't move overseas but I moved across several states so I just brought my computer and clothes then bought a a desk, chair, lights, and kitchen stuff at Walmart (or whatever you have over there).

I forgot to mention I had to buy a new cast iron skillet about once per semester in undergrad 😛

Yeah!! Definitely I will be messaging you soon!

take: anything light that can fit in your bag(s)
leave behind: anything heavy or that won't fit in your bag(s)

I like the responses I'm getting its all very helpful! I do have one stupid question, but hopefully no one judges me too harshly, but I have a weak back and so I would like to know what is the best backpack for medical students? I know there are other posts about this from the past, but I didn't find their suggestions helpful. They were outdated, too. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I'm pretty open minded so I'll look at any and all suggestions.

Thanks!
