I'm going to be a first year resident soon. I was wondering if we need to be PALS certified as a first year resident?

Depends on what your field is and what your program's requirements are. They will let you know if you do need it.

Most programs will give you intern orientation and have you get ACLS, PALS, etc. done during that time, if it's needed.

Your program will let you know. Some bundle it into orientation while others make you get it done before you show up for orientation
