Hello everyone, i hope you are having a good day, wherever you are !

due to multiple reasons, i barely passed M1 and now not only my gpa is awful, my knowledge is too.

i won’t bother you with the gpa part, since that is related to my study skills and there is whole section on this forum dedicated to that (thanks everyone!)

what i do want to ask about is how do i go about relearning everything.. again?

at first my plan was to re-read my uni lectures (i still have them) with the new M2 lectures, adding or removing old lectures depending on the stress of M2 (which according to this forum is pretty stressful so i don’t know if that will work)

but another plan is to use usmle first aid + kaplan books (and other resources, such as sketchy and pathoma) and skip the uni lectures til i finish M2 and skim through them as a “summer reading”

again ,i know its going to be pretty stressful, but what is the line between too much and not enough for my goals? I still struggle with planning and getting burned out

i tend to focus on details first and i am still a bad reader, so any videos/pictures sources even just to prepare is going to be a good help for me.

also, im not from the U.S. so i won’t be taking the usmle step 1 (even if i wanted to, im not prepared at all), but i would like to be either good in my basics or even good enough to take the test. All that matters is by the time i finish this year i will have solid basics (hopefully)

thank you for taking the time to read this !

This part of SDN best caters to American medical students (not to be nationalist) because most of us are American medical students who have grown up in the system. You're going to get the best information from your colleagues/batch-mates, etc. or whatever you call them wherever you're at.

As a general principle, if your ultimate goal is to pass your coursework and take USMLE Step 1/2 after your studies with plans to travel here, I would suggest to focus and engage on your curriculum. While Pathoma/Kaplan have a lot of useful general medical information, you don't want to be cutting corners and there's probably a lot of stuff your medical school expects you to know that's not in these resources.

hello there !

i forgot to mention that my college follows an american MD program (i hope i said that right lol) so that’s why i decided to post here + a lot of the reference books match what ive seen in this site

but thank you for your response !

-edit: as i mentioned before, usmle isn’t much of a concern as much as having to relearn what i missed the past year (M1). And i did ask a couple of people about this/searched about it and the response wouldn’t fit with my current goals (i mean there is no way i’d finish multiple organ systems just by studying once on the weekend or waiting to get embarrassed by doctors in M3/4 & being questioned on basic concepts that i should know already then study about them.)

Kaplan has no role in modern USMLE prep. This isn't 2009. Use Qbanks if you want to study for USMLE alongside classes. Would make sure you spend enough time on school slides so that you don't have issues getting through MS2.

I see, thank you so much !

would 50-100 questions daily be enough ? I feel like i have to double that amount (half old MS1 blocks, half current MS2 classes?)

If you barely passed, that means you at least learned something, right? C=MD, as they say....

Joking aside, I also recommend Kaplan. They will fill in many blanks for things you may not have learned properly from your school. UWORLD is also your best qbank for the Steps, if that's at all what you're going for in the U.S.
