Hey all, I'd like to ask the collective wisdom on this board for any suggestions regarding flashcard apps that will sync between the Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Multiple sides are a must.

I've heard of Mental Case but it seems pricey, especially since I'd had to have purchase 3 different apps. Their iPad/iPhone apps also don't appear to support multiple sides.

FYI, a Mac app is not a "must". I can create the flash cards in a .csv file, for example. I basically just want to be able to create flashcards anywhere - on my computer (Mac or Windows, I have both), on my iPad, and on my iPhone - and have them sync correctly across all 3 machines.

Thanks in advance!

Been using Anki as well, love it. Have it on ipad best $25 i have spent. Can put pictures in it, good for histo or path, simple copy/paste and sync with ipad.

I tried Anki first, but I hated it. Mental Case for Mac has so much more customization than Anki. The only downside is it's $20 vs the free Anki application, but if you are going to use the iphone app anyways, they cost the same amount since the Anki app is $25 and the Mental Case app is $5. Mental Case is sooooo much better.

Trust me, Mental Case is worth the money. And if you want to just try it, they offer a demo anyways. Give it a shot, if you are a flashcard person like me, you will love it.

pardoc & WonderBoy, thanks for the Anki suggestion. I'd actually never heard of it before. However, I read the FAQ, and the developer says Anki doesn't support multiple sides? Multiple sides are a must-have for me.

thedoctor8706, thanks for the Mental Case recommendation. Can you verify whether the iPhone app supports multiple sides? I thought it didn't, although I believe the desktop app does. Thanks!

The desktop app does support multiple sides, as in 3+ different facets per flashcard. The iPhone app only supports two sides, front and back. The way I make flashcards doesn't require me to use more than the two sides, so that's ok with me. Good luck! 🙂

Also, if you subscribe to the whole spaced repetition model that Anki encourages, simpler is better. Long term retention is the primary goal of using a program like this over other study methods.

I use flashcards deluxe ($3) on my ipad and iphone which syncs to studystack, quizzlet etc. on my computer. My favorite feature is the ability to hand write answers on the screen before seeing the answer side (on the ipad/iphone).

You can do multiple sides and images. It also allows you to record audio.

You can store all your FCs in different folders, the only downside is when you upload from Quizzlet you get a list of all your FC sets rather than folders. Otherwise it has been my favorite FC app.
