I've been using BRS cards for Micro, Pharm, and Path quite a bit. What do y'all think about them, both those that have taken the exam and those that are studying for it? Other than them, I'm using Kaplan notes, Goljan for path, FA, and Micro Made Simple - but lately I've been hitting the cards hard, because for whatever reason, I get less fatigued going through them then I do reading a book. Plus of course I'm testing in Qbank.

I'm not sure about how good the BRS cards for Path because I don't used them, but I can HIGHLY recommend the Lange Path Cards. They're amazing resources chock-full of information. Each card gives a clinical scenario on the front, then the disease, typical presenting s/sx, labs, histo, treatment, px, etc. They've been GREAT to use right before the exam to help pull everything together and I intend to keep using them for step 1.

Sounds similar to BRS, except the BRS cards are not set up in the format of having a clin scenario on one side and the info on the other. They're not for quizzing yourself, more for just putting concise info on a card.

They have the disease at the top, and then pathophys, s/sx, labs/radio/histo, biochem, genetics/epidemiology, and "tips for usmle" which usually has a typical clin scenario you would see on a test.

Lange might be better if you can test yourself.

I have the Lange cards also, haven't started using them too much but have looked at a couple sections for my modules. The case scenarios are nice but give you a lot (almost too much) info and it's pretty easy to make a dx most of the time. at the beginning of each section they break up the info into small trees which i like b/c for organization and to clump for memory.

which are the best cards for micro?

I've been happy with the BRS Micro cards, although I haven't seen any others. They have a clue on one side, and the organism(s) with more information on the other. Most cards are a specific aspect of the organism on the one side as the clue, but some of them also say "most common causes of pneumonia in 1. neonates 2. children 3. adults 4. elderly 5. alcoholics 6. nosocomial" and same thing for meningitis, osteomyelitis etc. I like them.

I got the Lange micro and I really like them. They do have a bit too much info, but i have highlighted what is important from first aid on there. I think the micro ones are new to the Lange series. I also got the Lange pharm cards and I am thinking of getting the path ones too. I really like the series. I looked at the BRS ones and I thought they were useless. I also didn't hear good things about the BRS cards from people who already took the Step 1. The Lange cards seem to have gotten good reviews at amazon.com. There are also the microcards, pathcards, and pharmcards- they seem to be better then the BRS ones, but i don't think they have as many clinical scenarios as the Lange ones do.

I was mistaken, I actually have the LWW Pathcards, not BRS. The micro and pharm ones are BRS though. Does anyone that's taken the exam agree that the BRS cards are no good?
