Does anyone have any experience w/ flexitip epidural catheters in an MRI? At our institution we use mainly the arrow flextip epid catheters--the "spring-loaded" ones. However, I'm not sure that the material inside the catheter is metallic.
The issue arises, of course, if there is concern over an epidural hematoma for diagnostic purposes an MRI is the best modality. But if coags are not in order at the time or recent anticoagulation dose has been given it may not be the most opportune time to pull the catheter for an MRI in the face of possibly an already present or forming hematoma.
There is not much info in the packaging of the catheters--it doesn't specifically mention the material in the catheter itself. I searched on Arrow's website, w/ no success. Finally I've emailed them about my question but no response. Anyone out there have any ideas or thought?
