Here's an interesting article I saw today. Researchers in the Philippines and U of California who have developed a strain of rice that can survive submerged in water for up to 17 days. This could help decrease the problem of world hunger, since about 1/2 the world's population has rice as a dietary staple, and many are subsistence farmers in flood-prone areas.
