here's the rough numbers from the last few years. expect the number interviewed and accepted to go up a bit since the FL legislature wants expanded class sizes at UF and USF, to the 120s each.
completed secondaries: 1000

so i just stopped by the admissions office to look at their little board of the class of 2008 thus far, and here's some info. looks like there were about 70 people up there already. that's the bad news. the good news is that i'd bet a year's tuition that a lot of those people up there now don't end up at uf in the fall. i say that because the person's school and major are listed and there a lot of students from top-tier undergrad schools who i have to think are treated uf as a backup.

are there a lot of uf students, too?
uf is definately the most represented school (ie, they have a plurality), but they're nowhere close to a majority. i'm big-time guessing here, but maybe 20 out of the 70? could be more or less, i really wasn't paying that close attention. it seemed like there were at least as many out of state undergrad institutions as florida schools represented.
out of staters that i still considered legal residents?
of those 2003 applicants, are those amcas submission or completed secondaries?
This is what it says in the msar. Of the 2003 applicants, approximately 900 are out-of-state and 1100 are in-state. And this is the number of primary applications. The number of completed apps is probably a little less than the above numbers.

i think it's because they know that many/most of the applicants already accepted won't end up matriculating at uf. many of the people on the board are from schools out-of-state, or from prestigious schools, or have very high numbers. i think the trend is that applicants who have average numbers from average in-state schools are most likely to matriculate at any given institution, and uf knows that. last year (or two years ago?) they got through the entire waitlist.
for the record, i have a friend who wasn't interviewed until february or march last year, and was admitted a few weeks later.
hopefully that brings a little bit of joy into your Christmas season. 😉

well, maybe not as much joy as an interview invite but at least it shows that things might continue to progress for some time.

Did you hear anything at all from UF? Two days ago, I got an email from them saying that I was put 'on hold' (pre-interview of course). So I called them up and the admissions lady told me that they interviewed about 180 people so far and there are about another 120 to go. So, I guess there is still hope.

not to burst your bubble, but my out-of-state friend (who happens to go to uf for undergrad) is interviewing friday. he got the invite 2 or 3 weeks ago i think.
that doesn't burst my bubble at all - unless friday is the last interview day, it shows there are still some signs of life
hey, can someone in the Gainesville area pass by the admissions office and check how many people have been accepted by estimating the number of pictures they have put up on the "wall of accepted"- I wish they had an online camera pointing at the wall 24/7, I really appreciate it.

applyingnotfun, you won't like my answer. my husband has been on the post-interview hold list since 10/15 (his interview was in september). so next month, it will have been 6 months since his interview, still with no decision.

I work in the Shands Hospital and so I always check on the board and the upcoming interviewees. UF stops interviewing Mid-March, at which time I suppose they will be reviewing the people they put on hold. I know that they already went through a round of hold reviews in December,because that's what they told us in my interview in November. Also, they have requested a deposit from people that have been accepted, which is due February 23rd (I guess to put extra pressure on people holding more than one acceptance). The deposit is refundable until May 15th or whenever people have to pare down to one acceptance. Hope this helps! I can try and stalk by the office for everyone and ask them how many people have been accepted if everyone wants me to.
Hey, I just went by the UF Admissions office and they said they've accepted about 110 people so far out of a class of 120 people (though they don't know the exact number yet). It's getting down to the wire....
i have a question that i'm hoping someone can answer for me...
i'm originally from FL (i've lived there until i was 18). but i moved to NY to go to college. i've lived in NYC now for almost 6 years...i recently met with my premedical advisor, and she told me that b/c i currently pay NYC taxes, i am considered a new york resident...
i'm going to be applying to all of the FL schools and am a bit worried about my resident status...i'm worried that my application may be negatively affected (especially at UF COM) b/c i am, according to my premedical advisor, considered a NYState resident. ..since i am originally from FL, am i FL state resident, according to medical schools? can i claim dual residence for both NY and FL when applying to medical school?

Where is your driver's lisence from? Also where do your parents live? If the answers are yes...you may be able to pass off as a FL resident. I would call the schools and see what they think...Im sure they run into this problem fairly frequently. Hope this helped.

i heard that not as many people were admitted in december as they expected - haven't heard any numbers, though.
