Hello,

I am currently applying to pharmacy schools in Florida (Nova, PBA, UF, and LECOM) and wanted to know what you guys think of these choices? What are the Pros and Cons of these schools?

I have my bachelors of science degree from FAU and my GPA is 3.6 and my composite PCAT score is 88. I would like to stay in South Florida, but wouldn't mind moving a little further north.

Thanks in advance.

Trust me dear, there is life outside of So. Flo. Just gotta get out of that restricting yourself to that area. I did. It'll still be there when you get back from your studies. That's what I'm going on. I'll only be gone for around 3 years tops then good ol' Miami-Dade County here I come. XD

NOVA, PBA and LECOM are all private. I don't think you'd want to foot a six-figure bill by the time you graduate. NOVA's a bit more justified in that the main campus gives you their resources outside of your schooling. LECOM has the school and that's that. I just came from there for an interview. I don't know about Palm Beach Atlantic all that much besides the fact that there's a small class size of less than 100.

There's also USF. I wouldn't count them out just yet. They are just getting started and they have the lowest tuition. There's skepticism on their accreditation status but I think they'll be fine. It's an alright school in a nice area. (This is where I got my BS from.) Tampa is like a slow-paced Miami.

UF is highly revered and your stats would definitely warrant an interview. I'd say go for it.

I'm heavily biased towards state schools can't you tell?

I got accepted to NOVA but I've also gone to USF and LECOM for interviews. Out of the three schools I've visited, USF, though new and not yet accredited, seems to have a better curriculum and is headed in a great direction for the future. School is very technologically advanced as compare to the other two. As for NOVA, I don't really like the palm beach location you are learning by watching lectures from the davie campus so I would suggest applying to the main campus instead. LECOM is just one building and nothing much to it and u are requuired to dress professionally at both NoVa and lecom for school everyday.

Honestly, I know very little about NOVA and PBA, but UF is a good school. I don't particularly prefer the distance learning style for the satellite campuses (and from what I hear main campus as well), but there are a lot of opportunities for research, extracurriculars and internships being a part of UF especially from a clinical and research standpoint.

Also, I currently attend USF and work in the college of pharmacy as a research assistant, and I would recommend there program in the coming years. Dean Sneed really is trying to be progressive in the development in the program, and I see great things coming from my school. However, the accreditation status is still pending, but there has never been a school to not complete the process before.
