Does anyone know how acceptances work if you are invited to interview at Miami and Boca? Is it like interviewing at two different schools or do you have rank them? I was just invited to interview at both campuses but I am running out of money to interview but I know I def. want to interview at Miami. Thanks

i think they consider you separately for each...and you DONT need to rank them

Correct. 2 different admissions committees, 2 different curriculums -- basically 2 different med schools. Go to both interviews, get student hosts, and schedule them thur-boca/fri-miami to save cash.

Does anyone know the dates the Florida schools start Winter Break? (see also: when they won't be calling to schedule interviews)...Just curious, so I could have a chance to preemptively turn off my disappointment meter in the coming weeks...I tried finding it on previous pages and couldn't locate it, Much appreciated👍

anyone who has been interviewed at UF...
how long after the interview can you expect to find out if youre accpeted/waitlisted/rejected?

i interviewed at uf on 11/16 (a friday) and was emailed by my interviewer on Tuesday, 11/20, to let me know I was accepted. I just recieved the official acceptance letter in the mail yesterday though. Im pretty sure all interviews are on Fridays, and then the committee meets the following monday to make the decisions. Dr. Gessner signs the letters on Tuesdays and they are sent out on Wednesdays.. so depending where your at youll either get the letter on Friday or Monday.

That is a very quick turn-around. I also received an e-mail acceptance followed by a snail-mail acceptance on Oct. 18.

So Team Zissou, is UF the final choice you for, or still waiting to make a decision?

South Florida Invite today. I know quite a few on the board were awiting news from USF; I was complete about 7 weeks before hearing the good news. Pretty excited about this one.

USF's break is from Dec. 22 (Saturday) to Jan 6th (Sunday). Much anticipated break for those of us in school...

When is it scheduled for?

Anyone on the florida thread received out of state interview invites? I just got an invite from NYU, but i am waiting for the call from USF tomorrow to make my decision if i will go or not. For those of you who already have acceptances, will you go out of state for interviews?

i have an einstein interview on jan 16th but plan on declining it this week due to my uf acceptance.

hey dendrite,

UF is at the top of my list right now.. everything there is amazing and the faculty/students seemed really happy and were very friendly. what about you?

Thanks Soccer🙂 Anyone else know about the others, Miami in particular?

I went to NYU a couple weeks ago, and I have Brown in Jan. and Maryland in Feb. coming up. Even though I have a UF acceptance and UF is at the top of my list at the moment, I'm definitely gonna go to the other 2 because you never really know which is the "best" medical school for you until you actually visit because you find out so much at interviews.

I did decline at Miami and USF, though, because I had visited those schools beforehand and had already made up my mind about UF being the best school for me in Florida.

UF has also been very good to me also - from the students to the Adcom to the Interviewers, and everyone in between.

I would still like to interview at a couple more FL schools (USF and UMMSM) before making a definite decision (still waiting anxiously on those two), but I am very psyched nonetheless.

miami is supposed to email decisions tonight right?

The second week of December.

Congrats! It seems they might be mixing up their invite scheduling. For the past few months they tended to invite 3 1/2 weeks ahead of time; maybe they're starting to come back around to REL's way of doing things. Either way good luck.👍

UF INTERVIEW!!! Don't want to wake up from this dream 😱

I actually had a dream last night that USF left an invite on my voicemail and I was left scrambling to find their phone number. Too bad I woke up😳 That's awesome on the UF invite! If I'm not mistaken I believe they interview on Fridays. Good luck!! It seems with these recent invites the light is starting to come through.

Congrats SoFla!!

As you've prolly read, UF is really relaxed, so I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and keeping this thread uplifting the past few months!!!...Hopefully I'm one step closer to having some of you as colleagues next year😀👍

:luck:

I have heard that UF and Wake have minimums for sections on the MCAT, so if you have a low section score, that could have contributed. I know the waiting sucks bad, but all emotions aside, many to most students that stayed in FL schools, interviewed after January. Most schools have just finished interviewing the pre-med "rock stars" so many students without interviews will receive them soon.

Hang in there Frida what Ufgrad said is on the mark. Most FL schools reserve a lot of their interviews and seats until after the first half of the season; i.e. Sept-Dec. You've still got to realize there are around 12 or so weeks left in which to interview from Jan-mar, so it's not over yet. Although I am a little surprised you haven't at least gotten one invite yet with a 30 mcat and a solid gpa. However, I do know of at least one person with a 33 mcat and good gpa that didn't get a USF invite until mid February, so I wouldn't lose hope just yet.
As far as the rock star thing is concerned, for the most part it's true. I called USF back in late Oct. and an administrator there told me they tend to divvy up their invites according to mcat and gpa with the best applicants getting the earliest spots. As far as I'm concerned, I don't need to be Jimmy Hendrix. As long as I'm on the stage I'll be happy.😎

I'd say Zissou has the rock star thing covered. He's pretty much got the FL schools in his back pocket. Congrats with your sucesses, Zissou! 👍

i dont know why usf and uf offered me an interview as soon as i submitted my secondary, but i have not heard a word from fsu or miami (and i been complete for 2+ months now)... my numbers are 31N, 3.7, bcpm 3.62. is anyone else on the same boat as me?

i interviewed at uf and both of my interviewee's grilled me on my young age.. be prepared to answer why medicine and why so early, if you're young.

Yeah, it looks like we are similar; I have basically the same stats except I have a 30O on the MCAT.

I have an interview with Miami, and already went to two interviews up north, but I haven't heard from FSU, USF and UF. I have been complete since late september, and haven't heard a peep from those schools. I was hoping that my application for UF might get a boost since I went there for undergrad, but now, I don't think they give as much priority to their undergrads as I thought. Anyways, I guess the best thing to do is to keep a level head and still keep waiting.
