Now that I have my first interview with UF, my first choice. What can I do to stay calm for the next three weeks ?. I have never been so nervous/excited/confused/happy/sad😍 🙁about an interview. I am already picturing myself moving to Gainesville. Can anyone tell me about the acceptance rate for interviewed applicants.

I think the consensus is that if you interviewed on either Sept 24 or October 1, you should expect a call no sooner than October 15th. If you interviewed on October 8th, you should expect a call on October 17th.

I'm not sure of the acceptance rate but the fact is that before UF accepts people they put many people on hold and start accepting a lot of people at once from the hold list towards end of fall and beginning of winter. They've done this in the past. Sometimes hold status will change to alternate list (waitlist) and then an acceptance. Sometimes if you are severely qualified and they really like you they'll give you an outright acceptance.

yeah but then there's also have to be no multiple acceptances and have to be more of a match kinda deal. I was talking with Dr.Bowtie about this a long time back in another thread.

But I think you and my friend who got waitlisted last year will have better luck this year! 😀

I never thought about categorizing an "early" group beyond Early Decision, the first group. I guess you could say the initial 6-8 groups could be early --- Oct/Nov timeframe. Either way, most "rolling" schools have open seats through Jan/Feb, maybe longer.

I believe USF makes decisions on Tuesdays and notifies applicants of the results the next day. You should probably expect a call on the 17th. Good Luck!

Actually on the day of the interview the person told us that they will make their decision on tues Oct 9th, and will call us on the 15th to let us know. But then I get an email the next day from admissions saying "we'll make our decision on the 9th and will call u the following day." That's really confusing for me. But in any case, its only a few days here or there so I'm not really worried. But good luck to you Medguy83. I'm sure FSU will give you some good news!👍

Suffice it to say, from now through the 15th+ I'd keep my cell on me at all times. FSU might have diff. policies; they told me around the 16th. I've heard that sometimes USF will call the night before if it's good news; although this is when REL used to handle things. Pretty neat. All in all, with both our interviews occurring around the beginning of Oct., it looks really promising. It's nerve wrecking, exciting, scary, etc. Just keeping my fingers crossed for great news. Once I get at least one acceptance I'm set.

Last year I got my FSU call Oct. 15 at like 11am...just for comparison's sake 🙂

If you interviewed on Oct 1, the Committee will meet to discuss your application on Oct 9 and you will be called on Oct 15.

I think it might be different for FSU because of that early start thing although I might be confusing that with the day they have to drop multiple acceptances so don't hold me to that.

Its funny, I have 5 interviews (including Miami's) and none of them are from the other FL schools. lol 0 rejections though and that makes me happy.

Did you call them up to check the status of your application? They should tell you if you have been reviewed or not. Agnes is really nice.

yea she was really nice when I called.. i called last friday i think.. she said i had just become complete on 9/28 and that my file had been sent over to be reviewed.. so i duno if its still being reviewed, or if they put me in a hold pile or what.. 😕

Give it a little bit of time. After a week and a half or so call again and check if you have been reviewed yet. Keep checking every 2 weeks or so. Don't let your file fall under the pile.

I just finished my AMCAS app last week and I was wondering if the FL schools send the secondary apps before the AMCAS is processed. I was hoping they do so that I wouldn't have to wait 6 weeks before I can get in the secondary. I already heard from USF so I have requested their secondary, but does UF, FSU, and Miami do the same thing?

Give it a little bit of time. After a week and a half or so call again and check if you have been reviewed yet. Keep checking every 2 weeks or so. Don't let your file fall under the pile.

Is there any truth to that falling under the pile talk? Do I really have to keep up on them constantly?😕

uf(although ull get the residency app), fsu and miami wait until ur app is verified.. but if u wanna get a head start go to the secondary essays thread and pre write your essays so they are ready when u recieve the secondaries..

It doesn't hurt, especially if you have subpar stats. It could potentially put aside and never looked at again.

I talked with FSU admissions today and they said that FSU will start offering acceptances on the 16th. She said they will make sure that they contact everyone who has interviewed early enough to have made a decision. They call you if you are accepted and email you if you are waitlisted. Stupid Oct. 15h rule, the extra waiting is killer! 😱

Yeah, I was told the same thing; was hoping for good news on Monday, those extra 24 hrs. will eek by. I guess this will be the one time I hope I don't find any med school emails in my inbox.

I believe its been said many times already in the past few pages of this thread that Miami notifies you of things via email. As per UF I think they call but double check with someone who has more experience with Gville.

Regular admissions number. Called early in the morning and got lucky because Hinkley picked up. Call and say you want to speak to him. If he isnt there, Email and put "Dr. Hinkley" on the subject bar. It will go directly to him, agnes will not open it.

I am soo nervous. I find out from USF on Monday... but that is also the day of my UM interview. Now the questions is, is it rude not to answer the phone when they told you they would be calling? I feel like I can't pick up on another school's interview day... eek!

Yeah, that's difficult timing. They could always leave a message on your voicemail, but it would suck to miss out on a potential acceptance right away. I say, if USF is your number 1 choice then answer it. I believe USF calls around 10:00am. Hopefully, if your interview day starts around 8 or so, you'll be touring the facilities with a med student around that time giving you ample opportunity to answer your cell in time.

Thanks for the reply but I DID call UM today. And the nice lady on the phone ( I guess, it was Agnes...) told me that my application was complete on July 6 th(!!!!) and that they are sending e-mail updates twice every month... but I never got any of these e-mail updates about application progress... I was just wondering do they really send out these emails or they are just "blah...blah ...blah.."😕

oh, and btw, congratulations on your "acceptance" (shh... before Oct 15) but I don't think that it can mean anything else🙂

a buddy of mine called and said the admissions people meet twice a month to decide on who gets an interview.. and that they are supposed to meet next tues or weds.. hopefully we will all hear something next week 🙄
