thank you, that makes me feel better. 🙂 i will continue to wait...

Waiting = dying a painfully slow death. It sucks and I know first hand!!! I'm waiting for residency interviews now and I hate it. You just gotta hang in there and keep having faith that all things happen for a reason. If you get interviewed somewhere, it's for a reason. If not, then it wasn't meant to be.

Everyone needs to calm down! Waiting is part of the whole process and it is still really early in the application process. Schools interview until the end of spring. I didn't interview at USF until the very last interview day in Februrary last year and I got in. There is always hope as long as interviews are going on. In fact, FIVE people from my interview group (of about 12) now attend USF and this was a pretty late interview. So relax and wait awhile. Being complete a few weeks is nothing... start complaining after a few months.

Advice...

Do call the schools that you are interested in every once in a while to check on your status. I called USF last year and they gave me a mini interview on the phone and then said they would put my application at the top to get considered again. Within two weeks I had an interview. So calling does help... just don't do it like every other day, the admissions people get annoyed.

Awesome news for Zissou👍 This wednesday was quiet as usual for me. Hopefully, I'm in that middle pile and I'll get an invite for around Dec. I'm still pulling for FSU to get me off their waitlist. Anyone familiar with FSU procedures? Do they keep you on hold until March? Good luck to everyone else on this thread. Still kind of odd I'm not hearning much news about Miami. Maybe there's a lot of OOS'ers this year.

At FSU they told me they are doing it a little differently this year. Every 2 weeks when they have their committee meeting to decide on who to accept, they will re-review the people on the waitlist and compare them to the people who just interviewed. Its good to know they don't just put you in a pile and leave it there all year.

If anyone has been accepted to FSU join the Facebook group I made. "Florida State University College of Medicine Class of 2012."

....and miami is back! interview at miami Nov 19😀

FPL was fast.

Congrats, with the interview zissou! How long ago were you complete there?

Me, now uber jealous. 😉

I couldn't help myself. I called Miami about my status and was told that my app has finished the review process and that a decision is being made. Now I will try my best not to check my email more than I do now.

Ok, so I think I know the answer to this, but does USF only offer interview invites on Wednesdays?? I was complete 10/17, and am just waiting. Same for UF and UM.

I received an interview invite at USF yesterday so I would imagine that they call throughout the week. I was complete 10/3 so hopefully you'll hear from them soon. Good luck!!!:luck::luck::luck:

how are all the fl applicants doing? Whered everyone go....

I interviewed at Miami in Boca on 10/25... does anyone know when they should let us know about the decision?

Oh and Team Z... you are my brother from another mother 🙂 We could possibly be classmates! Good luck with the rest of your interviews.

Me, fingers crossed for this week.

Same here...I feel like I can sustain one more week of positivity and then come this Friday at 11:59pm I'm gonna snap...

But then again, everyone on here is right in that we'll eventually hear from our schools so what's the sense in going ape ****-at least until Turkey day

Do you have any other interviews? I say this sincerely humble and do not want to be confused with a "gunner, self-righteous" pre-med.

I currently have two interviews in New England area schools that I am getting ready for, and I really feel that they have helped to take the edge off. I am very grateful for them and hope to do my best to make a good impression, but, because I haven't heard anything else but rejections and holds from other schools, I am hoping that one of the FL schools will come through. I know that if I do get a good message from at least one FL school, I won't be such an email ***** and will feel way more confident about myself and the process.

When is your interview scheduled? It'll give people on here like me a general idea where they are in the interview process. I have to admit that although like others I'm still optimistic, there remains this slight fearfulness and apprehension as the days and weeks pass by without hearing a word from schools. 😕

Haha, don't worry man I don't think it's possible to confuse anyone on this thread for a 'self-righteous gunner' premed...But in any event, nah I haven't heard from any schools as far as interviews...I did however call Loyola last Thursday and they said i was currently under review & a decision on granting me an interview would be made this coming week or next...I'm feeling you on the confidence thing concerning the FL schools-I'm really digging USF and both of the Miami's and would somehow feel validated if they showed me a little love...deep down I know it's still pretty early in the process but I guess complacency is hard to come by post-MCAT & years of hard work, while simultaneously playing the waiting game...plus I guess it doesn't help that I'm constantly surrounded by probably 3 of the best candidates in the state back at school (Team Zissou being one of them 😀)

Kind of a random question. I have my first interview coming up, and I wanted your guys' advice. I've heard its just good practice to bring extra copies of Amcas Ap/Resume, maybe a copy of your formal application to the school. Also, you're going to want something to carry your things in, not to mention all the pamphlets, handouts you'll be receiving. If you bring a folder, it wont match your suit, and for the life of me, early 20s is still way too young to be carrying a briefcase. I settled on a small, manageable leather binder, with a notepad, and sleeve to store papers - what do you guys think, and what did you guys use? For me the interviews are just starting, but congratulations to those of you with acceptances, and good luck to the other interviewers, and those awaiting invites.

That is what I did. I got a black leather legal pad holder (not sure what they are called formally) that was the size of a 3-prong folder and it matched with my black suit. I put a copy of my amcas report and my supplemental application to that school in the side folder (not much else). If you have published articles, I would bring that too in case the interviewers want a copy of it. However, I did not bring a separate resume. The individual school should also give you a folder with other information, like financial aid, info about the school, etc. If you are driving to the school, a briefcase would be unnecessary. Hope this helps.

haha.. yea it would be cool if a bunch of the applicants from this thread were able to be classmates next year.. the bonds formed on this site would provide for a great team of students lol. Good luck to you as well.. im 100% positive youll end up where you want to be 👍

Same here about the waiting. The waiting is making me feel as nervous as a high school drama queen waiting on the results of a pregnancy test . j/k.

Very diligently we went through the MCAT, undergrad, and EC's. All while giving up most or a good portion of our social lives, so for the FL schools to give an interview to us is like throwing a hungry dog a bone.

I've heard nothing but crickets from USF too. Don't worry. It's still early. Us Tampa guys gotta get our shot, no? 👍

Sorry for not adding the interview date. It's on Nov. 26th (right after Thanksgiving! :scared:) I was complete on October 3rd so they contacted me within a month. Granted time is passing by but it's still "early" so hopefully you should hear from them soon. Good luck! 🙂

thanks for the interview date info; good luck!:luck: I guess this would put anyone invited this week around Dec 3 for USF. I'm wondering how far into December schools usually continue to hold interviews. I would guess the last couple weeks or so the offices would be closed, but who knows. Maybe this will be the week USF will toss me a bone. Here's to another exciting week!

(...What I would give just to legitimately use one of those darned dancing bananas..."random thought")

when i recieved the miami invite via email, I had the ability to choose an interview date as late as Dec. 17... so dont worry, i dont think adcoms take the month of December off like we do.

anyone else flooded with tests this week ??😱

At USF we interview until December 17 as far as 2007 goes. We start back up January 7 and run through March 2008.

Wow Team Zissou I am so flooded with tests also!! It is so hard to concentrate on my tests because of this kid I know who is racking up the interviews and acceptance.

They don't stop interviewing during the whole month but during the 2 week period when the med students are out for vacation they don't usually have interviews which makes sense somewhat since students are part of the tour guides and interviewers.

As Mike pointed out and you've shown for Miami as well, usually December interviews will be til mid December and then start back beginning of Jan. That has been how it has been in years past.

On a side note, I was looking at the UCF website for their new med school and they have the admissions requirements and stuff up already under the FAQ link.

http://med.ucf.edu

and

http://health.fiu.edu

are the web links for the two new MD schools

UCF looks like its going to be a lot like USF with its base requirements of 3.0 and 24 rather then like FSU that has no cutoff for MCAT. But obviously like USF you'll have to be well more stellar then the baseline cutoffs.

It seems the school will be much like USF in many ways in terms of diversity of clinical training and location. But also in terms of admissions and other such things. I don't know how its curriculum will be yet though I am interested to see that info in Feb when they are able to put more up.

I did read on that link though that they are building a new VA hospital for there as well as collaborating with UF med with one of their research institutes. Building the new VA might take away some of the business at James Haley since the patients in that region might not want to drive this far when a hospital is over there. I also read that they are creating 95 new residency spots at the Fl. hospital system for MD students. Previously it was only a DO teaching hospital system as far as med school went.

I have a question. I remember hearing about your situation last year from you. Did you end up changing something significantly i.e. an MCAT score or doing a masters or something between this time around and last time??? I'm just curious because I remember your situation from last year.

Good luck with the interview. I'm sure you'll be great and get in.

Oh and to the person who said something about it being cool if different people on here ended up as classmates, yeah it usually happens that way that people get to know classmates through this site before they begin.

I know a couple of people who I've met in real life that became friends with each other after they interviewed together last year. They were also posters on here prior to that so they got to know each other on the boards first. I know I met a few people on here first too and then got to know them in real life as well. The best part is when you get to know your potential interviewees before the interview because of this site and that makes things more comfortable at the interview day. Then if both get accepted it really helps to know you've already been able to network some. One of my old friends on here that I know in real life met many, many, many people on the interview trail she'd spoken to on SDN and became friends with some of them enough to meet up with them.

I did both. I retook the MCAT and I'm also doing a Master's at USF (Anatomy). Hopefully this time I'll have more luck with their med program. You're applying this year as well, right?

What schools did you apply to out of florida? Do you think we even stand a chance and some other state schools?

What schools did you apply to out of florida? Do you think we even stand a chance and some other state schools?

I'm not sure if you're directing this question at me. I applied to all Florida schools and some OOS schools. Are you a Master's student as well? I think as long as you have a solid application, you should be okay. It all depends on what the school is looking for. Good luck to you :luck:

I applied to many OOS schools, and so far I have one interview invite. I really hope I stand a chance... but so far with two pre-interview rejections I'm not being terribly optimistic 🙁

Just called USF and what sounded like the the sweetest lady in the world told me that my packet along with many others has been reviewed and given a score and we should be hearing w/in the next 2 or so weeks once the current wave of interviews is cleared up especially if your 'score' brings you to the top of the pile...I tried goading out of her when our interviews would be if we were called and she anticipated late Nov/early December (before the adcom break, basically)...anyone else hear likewise? hope this helps...

BTW I really like the whole calling each other future colleagues thing...it will happen👍...Oh yeah, and gold91, I also can't imagine how hard Team Zissou has it right now with his plethora of exams😀

I know!! I feel so bad for him! We gotta nail that exam tomorrow so we may get back with our incessant babbling about medical schools.

to those who interviewed at miami(miami campus).. what are the hotels near the med campus.. im trying to book one but can only get those that are near the undergrad campus.. thanks 👍

hey all,

I am new to SDN, I am a FL resident but I attend school out of state. Until this point I have not heard anything from FSU,UF,USF, or miami regarding interviews. I have an interview in the boston area already and I am just wondering whats going on. I guess I will start calling each school to see what my status is-I expected at least 1 interview by this point 🙁

It's very near the airport. I'm staying at a comfort inn there (they couldn't find a student host because it's exam week). I'll let you know how it is. Probably not very good, but basically all I'm looking for is a bed and a shower.

thanks man, good luck at your interview.. what're all the fl applicants up to today?

Will you have a car or other means of transportation? You won't want to stay in a hotel near the med campus, not a good area. Then again, it's not really "very near" the airport either, when you factor in that you'd be driving (or cabbing) it during rush hour. To be honest, for something affordable, look in the Dadeland area or the main campus. Both have a MetroRail stations within blocks-- from there it's a 20min straight shot to the med center, 5min walk from the station. I do it every morning. This would be much more reliable than cabbing it or driving during rush hour. 🙂 Good luck.

Hey Pandulce, I was also rejected from boston. I was really disappointed because it was kind of a safety school for me (until i realized everyone and there mom applies there). I similar stats as you. I was really bummed out also. There is nothing we can do now, but wait and nail the interviews that we do have. You mine as well try to be optimistic while you wait, you have to wait either way.

Today was going to turn out pretty much like every other recent Wendesday; i.e. one of looking painfully at my cell from 10am onwards to wind up getting depressed around 12 after no invite. So I decided to do the next best thing: Call them. Probably not the brightest move considering it's a busy day for USF, but heck what've I got to lose at this point? Basically, I was told that USF is currently interviewing some OOS students, and mainly those with mcat scores in the range of mid 30's to 40's, and that "hopefully" I should be expecting an invite soon. Don't know if that was blind speculation or a conjecture of optimism to make me happy and go away, but hey it's good enough for me. btw this whole waiting business is pretty crappy. Not to mention the hold status at FSU.
Speaking of which, since FSU is an early start program (June), one would think that they would let everyone on the hold list know what the final verdict is a good while before then right? I mean, I would think it would take a bit of time to make arrangements to move up there, fill out fafsa forms, loans, etc. I don't want to pester them either, but I don't want to be left dangling like this for months on end. Congrats for those with more invites and acceptances today. Good luck to others like me who have to deal with waitlists and the aweful sound of silent phones. I'm going to need a bucket full of these:luck:

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the USF invite! Its seems to be like they go through apps pretty systematically (ie, grouping OOS people, high MCAT, mid-range MCAT, and low-range MCAT) so you might just be hearing from them soon/eventually.

As for FSU, I would definitely send them some updates...though it seems like its just a waiting game after getting waitlisted, I find it a misconception that its out of your hands post-interview. Some schools (I believe FSU included) appreciate students showing interest via updates letters...gotta show em you want it bad!! I wish you luck!

Waitlist at UM Boca... UM hates me 🙁

Sorry to hear that...good news is there's no waitlist that moves like a Florida school waitlist...You have me kind of worried, since we have pretty similar stats and I haven't even heard from either school...hopefully we're colleagues this coming fall as Bulls or Canes🙂
