Just got back from USF. Awesome medical school! I had a really great PhD interviewer and it was a lot more relaxing having an interview under my belt. I'm kinda sad though as it's my top choice, and I really hope that I get an outright acceptance. I don't want to go through this application process again, never, lol.

Who did you intervier with? I have an interview there on Monday.

Damn is it me or did the Fl. thread suddenly get a streak of luck????

4 people now got interviews in the recent times. Trend started with lifetimedoc and soccer885. Now pipedreams and gladier and Jack!! This is good news to see so many Fl. getting good news. 😀

Yes...Pipedream just got interview invites to USF and UM last week. UM interview through mid-late April. USF as of two weeks ago only had 7 interview dates...so I suppose that means there are only 5 interview dates left in the season now. I believe they only interview on Mondays.

Well, I guess the good lord giveth and the good lord taketh away. I got waitlisted by FSU today. 🙁 Does anyone know how many people get off there waitlists? Is it tiered? etc.?

I'm glad it went well, LTD! You'll have to tell me all about it! My fingers AND toes are crossed for you! I don't know how long I can hold it up, though... my toes are cramping.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

I've heard FSU puts a lot of people on waitlist because they don't want to make premature decisions. That said, don't give up hope. Good news will happen before the cycle is over. I'm positive of that.

Don't worry pipe, there is a good chance of getting off the waitlist at several of the FL schools. Also, you've got two more interviews 🙂 That always helps.

I recently interviewed at FSU, and they said they already accepted >120 people for 120 spots, so now they are being really cautious because they need to see how many people withdraw before accepting more. They said they anticipate about half those already accepted to matriculate, so there will be a lot of waitlist movement. It's not tiered, not ranked, it's just wait-by-the-phone hell. 🙁

Echoed!!! What's new???????????????

Did anyone on here interview at USF last week and find out their fate today??? Or are all the peepz on here waiting for next Wed. as the magic date?? 😛

Good luck!!

Bumpity bump

What are the turn around dates for USF and UM, from interview to decision? Are they 1 week?

USF interviews people on Mondays and gives them decisions the Wednesday of the week after. 1.5 week turn around time I suppose. But then if you are waitlisted it depends what tier you are on. Also, REL, out of curiousity when you use the words mid summer to describe a high tier person's position on the waitlist do you mean like mid may to june?? A friend was wondering.

I'm new to this forum...and I've been reading the posts about UM. I'm also on their hold list waiting to be called for an interview. I was wondering what the "letter of intent" is and what should it include?

Update: I finally got some interviews!!! On Feb 19 I interviewed at FSU, and last week I got interview invites from UM Miami, UM Boca, and USF on the same day!!! Im crazy excited, especially about USF. Did anyone stay with a med student for USF?😀

When were you complete at UMiami???

Does anyone know if it helps to send a letter of interest before you're offered an interview? I'm very interested in Miami, but I have only been complete there since 1/8. Any advice?

Well, it's March now and I'm still hoping for interviews at Miami and USF...

that's the same thing I want to know......I think I saw it mentioned somewhere in this thread....but I don't know if it's pre or post interview

'You can send a letter of interest pre-interview. What this means if you send them a letter...maybe update them of activities since you've been complete and tell them why you are so interested in the program or that school.

Letters of intent tend to be post-interview and usually say something to the effect of saying why you want that school, how they are your number one choice and what you intend to do with their offer of admission if they were to give you one - ie: you would definitely go. It's non-binding, but it would be in poor taste to write a letter of intent and then not go. At least some people say that.

So, in your case, I definitely suggest a letter of interest. Talk about why UM and what you've done since you've been complete or send updates of recent grades. Also, if you have someone affiliated or important that you could ask, have them send an additional reference on your behalf. In this letter of interest make sure that when you say why you want that school that you use some type of example from how you have demonstrated that reason in the past. Past behaviour is the best predictor of the future according to adcoms...

Good luck everyone.

Hey Pipe, UM's turnaround time was 4 weeks, but now it's become a bit longer. So, let's say 4-6 weeks 🙂.

Good luck.

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been covered in this thread already, but I was placed on the alternate list at Miami's main campus and I was wondering if anyone knows around when they start accepting people off of it.

Good luck to you all.

Argh...all this waiting. I've got until Tuesday to hear from FSU (sometime between 2:00pm and 5:00pm) and Wednesday from USF (sometime between 9:00am and Noon). My whole academic career is flashing before my eyes! :scared:  :scared:  :scared:

I feel your pain! Good luck :luck:

So guys how long does it usually take to hear back from UF? I was told it would only be a week from the day I interviewed, which was Feb. 16th. Its march 1st and still no letter in the mail. The US postal service is killing me!! I talked to Robyn this morning and she said she would send out another letter since the first one never came. 😱 :scared: 🙁 :scared: 🙁😱 Now I have to wait all over again!!! LifetimeDoc and others I know how you feel.

Maybe ask her to email you instead. When I interviewed there they said we could ask to hear the reply via email.

I hear from FSU Tuesday as well. Hoping for a phone call!:luck: to you all!

When impatient, Floridians, just think about all those other states that make you wait 4-6 weeks 😛 🙄

👍 Although I am not a Floridian, I did apply to two of your schools. I think those schools handled the whole thing more professionally and transparently than many other schools I applied to.

I just wanted to say congrats to a friend who got an interview invitation at USF today. She likes to read SDN but doesn't even have a screen name, silly girl, hiding in the dark... so....

CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS!

P.S. I think you rock and will have a fabulous interview. 😍 :luck:

Doh!!! I should have asked. Oh well. I'm just gonna wait it out🙄

Congrats to her! I called her immediately once I found out. She'll be great!   :luck:

Hey Bball the same thing happened to me with UF the letter never arrived and I had to get sent another one. I think if you get in though someone might e-mail you probably one of your interviewers, but most people are put in that hold group.

Will anyone whose been rejected from Miami post and say when they were complete? I know people usually only post good news, but this could also be informative to those of us who're still waiting.

Guys, I have to pay Nova in like two weeks, but really dont want to fork over the $1250 if I could end up at one of the Florida MD schools. My question to you is: Barring any terrible interviews, what are the chances of ultimately getting accepted if I have interviewed at USF, FSU, and UM(both campuses)?

I know this is a tough question, but any input would be helpful

I'd say as a starting point, 50% chance at each after an interview and wading through the waiting lists. If you have 4 interviews lined up, then there is a really good chance you'll get into at least one.

I have to agree with lifetimedoc that your chances are good. In addition, I know I've seen people calculate using probability what there chances are for getting an acceptance using the acceptance rate for each school. I believe that the acceptance rates for those 3 are 2/3, with Miami being a bit higher. I only got a B+ in statistics and am kind of slow with probability. If someone knows how to actually calculate this, please offer your expertise 🙂. But do remember pipe, that there are many factors for being accepted and so odds are probabilities are not always reality. I think with your application and interviewing skills, you will get in.

Also, about Nova...until you hear something just fork it over. I know it sounds crappy if you get into an MD school, which you probably will, but it's important to cover all your bases. If you don't have a problem with DO school then pay them and lose the money. Better safe than sorry.

I think I'll ask for an extension first, then try to play it by ear.

Are you rolling your eyes cuz you are the person in question??? 😛

If so, good luck!!!

No, the eye rolling is completely related to the group of us being SDN obsessed....it's usually one of the main talking points when we get together to have lunch between classes. I'm just hoping that since I've been accepted, LifetimeDoc has had his interviews and will find out in a week, our non-member friend has her interview in two weeks (YAYAYAYAY), that the conversation may be persuaded to be a little less application worry related, and more "YAY we are all going to be doctors (perhaps at the same school)."

(Minus the fact that Nonnahs is applying this upcoming cycle and will hopefully benefit from the rollercoaster ride experience of the three of us from this year...lots of luck to her on that one)

Then again, if that happens (all of us at USF), we will probably turn into a SDN obsessed group endlessly talking about classes, USMLE scores, and rotations. *Sigh* I suppose it will never end....😉

Good idea. I didn't know they granted extensions? I get the idea that a lot of people like Nova, so it might be hard, but good luck with that.

Yeah I called. They said if I didnt pay my name would be dropped from the list. NO EXTENSION= BYE BYE MONEY🙁

The chance of getting accepted is:

1-(Chance of rejection at USF)(Chance of rejection at FSU)(Chance of rejection at Miami)(Chance of rejection at FAU)

Using Zeke's assumption that you have a 2/3 of being accepted at each place, your chances are 1-(1/3)^4= 0.98765

nota bene: This calculation assumes that each event is independent, which is obviously not a fair assumption. Unfortunately this is the best you can do with statistics.

If it were me I would probably hold onto the DO acceptance just in case, but I am extremely risk averse.

OMG!!! Nota bene...hehehe

Thanks for the calculations. You do have a point each event is not independent and there are so many factors that the calculation is not perfect. Money is just money...I know you will pay them, but console yourself by knowing that you are going into major debt...what's a grand? 🙂

Too funny!!!!

And even better yet remember what a great state Florida is to be in because our med schools rock in giving us hope unlike some of the more competitive states in which kids are forced into a position of having to leave to the other coast just to get an education (cough California residents cough)LOL 😀
