Florida schools application thread part 2

LOL "R w/o IV"?

That is exactly why I did not apply to that school. They are thinking...um yeah, we rejected you without an interview. You are therefore not worth our energy to type out a full sentence "rejected without interview", which by the way is a totally ****ty subject line... WTF!

oh wait i should have read, you deciphered it first! damn you win...at least the application was very cheap :luck: and we GOTTA send those letters out before they are finished interviewing!!!!!

Can we please get back to the relevant issues? I'd personally much rather hear about where everyone is going and what's going on with the Florida schools than this silly argument about who can post where. If you want to state your case, either way, set up a new thread and open it to discussion for the whole board.

That being said...I think this semester is the longest, slowest, and most difficult to pay attention in that I've had since starting college. Man, I can't wait for May to come around 🙂 (and then August, of course).

Thank you! This was what I wanted to do. I wish I said it like you did!

A drink to us then for thinking the same thing!

This lack of motivation thing is annoying - although I must admit I had my financial aid stuff done and mailed out within a day of getting the e-mail....studying for my quiz on Wednesday....HA not so much. Really sad considering I'm only taking one class....

I did read it all. I just didn't want to keep going on with the argument (like now) so I talked in general terms. Besides I wasn't in the argument before and really didn't want to bring myself into it by going through every post and replying to specific things. I was hoping that my general statement would just be the end of it, but people just don't know when to call it quits. Now a new argument is brewing...

woa woa i feel i have started this argument by poking at the fact that guju has promoted herself to adcom status by posting on a thread specifically only for adcoms. guju no one is questioning your posting on the florida thread, or any other thread that specifically does not say :ADCOMS semisolicited advice. The instructions are clear, the adcoms are to give the advice on that thread. Medstudentwanna be is upset because it cause it destroys the validity of that specific thread only,if you start answering then others will too, and eventually that thread will become useless. People are seeking advice on many other threads, why not give that advice on threads not dedicated to adcoms? That would allow you to continue to give your advice without offending others.

I snapped earlier about the comment of student number, and i shouldnt have. However, i provided very specific accurate info, and i didnt want to see that number get erased by heresay and rumor, but nonetheless i could have been more tasteful and tactful about it instead of jumping like that. I am sorry for that dueist.

Again, I've cited exactly who I'm getting my information from. I also know that some of the other adcoms refuse to post on there even though post the same info on here. I suspect a couple of reasons which I won't state for this lack of posting on that thread but nonetheless the only things I've posted have been cited and that's the difference between me and other people who post on those kind of threads. I've never said anything that hasn't been said before directly from the adcoms and I've never not cited my info on that thread in the majority of those cases. Get off of it.

Moving on, I agree with Dr. Zeke and Soccer and Sushiaki that there are better thing to discuss.

P.S. I don't know how you get that I'm promoting myself to adcom member when I've stated which adcom members my information has been taken from. I've never given anyone any reason to believe that I'm on an adcom and again have stated my source.

It doesnt seem like your ready to give up even though i have agreed my fault. Its ok though. Because check what the moderator has just posted for you on the adcom thread:

Hello Everyone! This is a friendly reminder that this particular feature thread of the preallo forums- the ADCOMS- Semi Solicited Advice- should have questions only answered by the members of the admissions committee- otherwise this would not be stickied. This should generally be a Q & A- Q's by only SDN/Preallo users and A's given only be the adcoms who this thread was designed for. Good luck to everyone this year, including the Adcom members- who Im sure are bogged down in phone calls and paperwork.

The issue is closed, you can stop posting there now.

Tell me about it! I have a paper due Friday and a bunch of homework to get done this week. But all i can think about is getting a decision from USF on Wednesday :scared: I also need to fill out FAFSA and I am planning my wedding that is going to happen in less then four months! I have been puttting off a lot of the wedding stuff because of school and the interview at USF. Thank goodness I have spring break after this week and will hopefully be able to get a lot done in all departments 🙂

I read that. Listen I apologize as I did not finish reading the rest of your post since it seemed like it was going to be another attack. I sincerely do apologize that you were offended and don't mean to offend anyone. But I'd like to clarify one final thing. Everyone who posts in that thread does not post in other threads where other adcom perspectives are given. That is the reason I've felt it necessary to post what those adcoms have stated in our thread and other threads. I've PMed that to the mods too.

Furthermore, there have been occasions when that adcom's information has been wrong as pointed out by REL so I felt that it was important to get more then that one adcom's advice but I suspect REL won't post in there seeing how he hasn't so far except when adcomm has said something wrong. This was true of the old semisolicited thread too. I've asked LizzyM to post in there if she can since she's been on an adcom for >5 years at one of the more prestigious institutions up north.

BTW: Soccer,

Good luck with the wedding planning and other things you have to do this spring break.

I don't think there's a person reading this thread that doesn't appreciate your effort. However, you're not the spokesperson for these adcomms. If they want to post, they will. If not, then they won't. No harm, no foul. What you're doing is actually hurting the cause because you're opening the door for abuse. Let that thread be used for what it was designed for. If you want to help others, there are a billion other threads for you do so. That thread is not for you, regardless of what you know and who you've heard from.

no they sent out a rejection today, it had a weird subject line...and im still crossin my finger for main miami campus i think they are done interviewing at the end of march maybe? im not sure

They invite for interviews through the end of March according to the person I talked to there last week

Thanks! I also want to wish people luck who are hearing back from schools this week (LTD 😉 ).

On another note about weddings, you must be the 4th or 5th person I know getting married this summer. At least 2 people I know from back home are getting married in the summer. Then there's a good friend of mine who is having her wedding at the end of the semester. Then there's you and a few others.

Is your wedding in doors or outdoors? I think outdoor weddings are awesome. I just saw some pics, some time back, from an old highschool classmate's wedding. Wow I coouldn't tell how much it looked like something out of a fairy tale. Everyone looked so gorgeous. The decor was beautiful and the setting was perfect. It was upnorth in the midwest during spring time and all outdoors. MCMDs wedding pics were also beautiful last year when she posted them on facebook.

Oh thank you 🙂.

PS - NervousNed, I believe there was a post a few pages back about Miami interviewing till mid April. I'm still working on that LOI *sob*

Have you been invited for an interview yet DrZeke? If not, do you think that a pre-interview LOI will help? What are the names of the AdCom members from Miami that post on this thread that could maybe answer this question?

I am getting married outdoors (in the evening since it will be in June). Ever since I was young I wanted an outdoor wedding. It is going to be at a place (I would rather not mention on here since it is a well known place) that is right on the beach. I am not getting married on the beach though. The building were my reception is has an outdoor patio/garden and that is where my wedding will be held. The becah is for some really nice photo ops since it is a rocky, deserted beautiful beach! I am really excited about it but I am not so into all the planning that goes into it. I will put pictures up on facebook afterwards so you can see!

Unless I know more about who "Adcomm" is ?or are? I wont get involved with it. As you may recall when the thread was started last year it was "apparently a medical student who apparently was a part of an admissions committee somewhere." You may also recall that I gave the purported adcomm member a chance to declare privately who they were and I could then verify their authenticity to the group. They declined to do so. If I dont know who I am dealing with I cannot assign a high credibility factor. That having been said, in general, their information is mostly on target. As long as they provide information based on their "experience?" and from an been-there applicant perspective I have no problem. While adcomm has credibility from the Admissions Committee perspective, there is a deficiency in actual admissions office process knowledge.

Final translation the Adcomm thread provides a good service to answering many questions. I cant guarantee that they are actual adcomm members other than by their usually knowledgeable answers regarding applications and content.

I chose to reveal only to ensure credibility and I usually stick to Florida so I have no reason to get involved with the Adcomm thread.

Yeah I suspected that you didn't get involved with that thread because you question their credibility. I'm glad you openly stated that to the posters on here who wish to put that thread up on a pedestal but didn't want to state it for both fear of being flamed and for the fact that I felt it was for you to mention to them and not me to mention to them that you had questioned the adcom person's credibility. This is the reason I have a problem with the rules of that thread. A lot of posters, especially new posters, are depending on answers from that thread with the blatant assumption that someone they know next to nothing about is credible and the only resource of an adcom on that thread. At least with you, from the first time you posted, those who'd met you would probably be able to see that it really was you who was talking because your tone was such that I could almost picture you saying it out loud since it had the general sense of tone you take at the meetings I have met you through. Then there is the fact that you've openly admitted who you are to us on here when I asked you about it after your initial post 2 years ago.

I am waitlisted at main campus...this is why I want to write an LOI...

👍 👍 👍

i got the same subject line for florida, does anyone know what that means:???

R w/o IV

ACTUALLY i think i got it, R stands for REJECTED, and IV stands for interview so it reads R w/o IV = Rejected without interview. Real cute subject line dont you think?

I got the same email and subject line, and thought it was pretty crass and unfeeling. But we are being trained to be like that... right? 🙄 🙄 🙄

The Liason between SDN and UMiami admissions office posts under the name of UMMSM.

There are no actual adcoms on here from Miami. There may be some student adcoms who remain anonymous on here, but they have not identified themselves as adcoms so I guess we don't know if there are any? The only adcom that I know who posts on here is REL - USF. Perhaps Miami_Med is a secret adcom member?

Awwwww...congratulations!!! At least the FAFSA isn't too bad once you have your taxes (and your parents') - but I can imagine the craziness that would surround planning a wedding (especially if you are doing it all yourself!).

The day I found out about USF, I ended up playing phone tag with REL because I was in class - talk about anxiety having to wait for not one, but two phone calls! Good luck for Wednesday!

Dr. Hinkley has posted on here a long time ago once. However, he doesn't post much often. But he did designate a liason between the admissions office and the med school admissions department under the username:

UMMSM

It is a relatively unknown fact because the person who uses that username has not advertised it as well as they did when they initially joined SDN.

You'll get in somewhere and that's what it is important.

Just to be correct: REL is an admissions director and not a member of the admissions committee. He has said before that he has no vote on the adcom.

True!!!! I think Dr. Williams is the only person I know who sits on the actual deciding committee. He's awesome too because he looks over people's personal statements and takes time to talk to them and he also has involvement with the main campus of USF. He helped a few of my friends in the past with looking over their personal statements. A little intimidating at first but tends to have a good sense of humor from the one or two times I've met him at meetings and the likes.

I think I was easy to pick out being the old guy in the suit, lol.

I don't remember what made me think you were who you were. You look just as young as everybody else so that wasn't it! Good luck :luck:! You hear from FSU tomorrow right? Then USF Wednesday...

:luck: :luck: to LTD today!!!!!! And 1 more day til you guys here from USF!!! :luck: :luck:

:luck: to Pipedreams to for their upcoming interview and sillymemd as well.

Got called this morning for a UF interview on March 30th. This is the last day to interview there I was told. So if you havent gotten a rejection yet, then an interview is on its way.

UPDATES:
FSU- accepted
USF- waitlisted, high tier

I have no idea what I should make of my situation. should I wait around for usf or uf or should I get prepared to go fsu? I can't wait around for the others and miss out on fsu...right?

Depends on where you want to go. All three seem pretty equal to you - go for FSU. Loved USF - wait it out; REL should have let you know what your chances are for getting off the waitlist (which I'm assuming are going to be pretty good.) Have your heart set on UF....that might be the tough one, since their waitlist isn't ranked and once you attend FSU's orientation, your committed...

I've had people tell me that any med school is better than no school, but I disagree. I think, personally, that you should go where you will be happiest and most comfortable - because that is where you are going to be most successful. Good luck with the decision though!

Sorry about that, bball. That's the ONE thing I dislike about the FSU entering class--they start in June. It forces you to make a decision earlier than you'd like since the waitlists move through June for the other schools. Not a great situation, but hey, at least you already have an acceptance. 🙂 Still workin' on mine.

I see some negative comments about UF COM! I won't tolerate it! 😡 :meanie:

Good luck everyone, and good luck to us in March Madness 😀

I'm not going to add anything except to say 👍 👍 to this post because its a very eloquent way of saying everything I would have advised you as well. 🙂

Oh and congratulatiions.

Agreed. Someone posted a few pages back that last year 70 people got off the waitlist and REL says roughly about 60 people get off waitlist every year. So there's always that chance but I'd talk with him again and ask his advice directly because it is still a gamble.
