Congrats!! Oh and LTD,

Did you get the call or email from FSU yet as to what your status is?

Got an email from FSU...HOLD(basically they said they'd look at my application after sifting through all the other applications in late April). 🙁

I'm not looking forward to what USF has to say tomorrow. 🙁

Thank you for interviewing with members of our Admissions Committee at the Florida State University College of Medicine. We sincerely appreciate your interest in our medical program.

At this time, the Committee has elected to place your application in our HOLD category. The Admissions Committee will continue to evaluate your folder as the admission cycle proceeds. You should make no assumption regarding your acceptance or non-acceptance to the program at this time. We will inform you when a final decision has been reached by our Admissions Committee which will occur after all interviews have been completed and after all applicants files placed in the Hold category have been re-reviewed. You should expect to hear from us again in mid to late April.

Dont feel bad, Im in the same "hold" boat.

As for BBALL and FSU, maybe a letter of intent would help move things along at the other schools.😉

I have a question. If you attend FSU's orientation on april 6 does that mean your committed, because I think they have multiple orientations so that would be early orientation right. If it is not binding can it be used as an extremely informative second look. Any opinions???

I asked about this, and no, it doesnt commit you to attending...the orientation has to be directly connected to classes starting to be binding. So, when/if you go to orientation at the end of may, you would be committed.

Aw, thanks everyone.

Bball: I of course vote FSU, but go wherever fits best for you. If you're ever near Tally, PM me, and I can show you around town.

Guju: love the new pic- hopefully it will bring luck to everyone on this thread!

Lifetime: Best of luck tomorrow hearing from USF. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!:luck: :luck: :luck:

hahaha yeah my buds in the Random thread in the MCAT forum were all changing their avatars to the March St. Patty's day avatars so I thought it only appropriate!! 😀

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Honestly UF was my #1 choice (my hometown= Jacksonville), but FSU is a great school and I would rather be sure and take the FSU acceptance than wait for UF (and maybe never get in) and have to settle for a school that I dont want to go to (ie. Howard.. my alma mater...I love it but i need a change). A bird in hand is better than two in the bush..right? Plus my sister is an undergrad at FAMU in tallahassee so at least it will be good to be around her.

It is only the start of March. You have a couple more months to decide if you hear from anyone else. I think you have a good chance at getting an acceptance from USF by early May. And if you don't, you won't have to worry about going to FSU two weeks before classes start as your sister already has a place there to stay. Two weeks is definitely plenty of time compared to people who get into FSU literally the day before classes start.

That's cool. I think you made the right choice, and since you have family in the area I don't think it can be that bad. 😛

Actually, except for the part about having to start school in the summer, I think it will be a great program. I'm going to their open house on March 24th, but I took an unofficial tour a few years ago with some friends when we were up for Deans Day and the med students let us look at the learning communities and what not. At that time the building had just opened. Seems like a very friendly atmosphere and like the students really work together with each other so I don't think you'll be making a bad decision going there. Congrats!!

The thing is I would rather go to fsu than usf... is that crazy talk?😕 Am I crazy for feeling this way?😱 I just felt better about my fsu interview day. I know usf has a stronger program, but I dont like the fact that there are no minority faculty and hardly any minority students (maybe one African-American per class)...I'm an African-American female so thats important to me. I will give it time though. I plan to take a visit to all three again before its all over to see if there is anything else I can gather and add to my decision making process.🙄

I am really sorry to hear that 🙁 Don't get discouraged though. Good luck!

Just to be correct: REL is an admissions director and not a member of the admissions committee. He has said before that he has no vote on the adcom.

Just to be very correct, REL is a "non-voting" member of the Admissions Committee and also the Director of Admissions.

No that is not a crazy thing. You go to the school that you feel most comfortable with. I know I may come off as a strong USF advocate but that's cuz I like the program a lot. I could see where someone like yourself might feel more uncomfortable with the program because of the lack of minorities at USF COM and don't find anything wrong as whichever route you go, you will ultimately still end up wher you want to be if you put the work in during med school and do well.

I'd go ahead and run with the acceptance to FSU if you feel that is a better fit for you and just to let you know I do know people who've felt the same way so don't think it a bad thing. Besides if you get placed at somewhere like ORMC for your clinical rotations, they are a pretty strong academic hospital from my understanding.

I agree with gujudoc. You just have to go with where you feel most comfortable. You still have time though to choose so I would suggest revisiting the schools (I think you mentioned doing that) and talking to some current students. Also, some students/professors will let you sit in on a class or two. These things might give you some more insight into the programs.

go with your gut bball, im passing by several ranked programs for ones that are not, based on my gut feeling where id see myself ENJOYING my education more...

I second ( or third, or fourth, or fifth, I forgot to count) on the go where you feel comfy thought.

Ah, ok. I know we talked over PM about UF and how much you like that place. I wouldn't jump to a decision right away and I would wait a little to hear from UF. What timeframe did they give you where they would let you know? Keep in mind, it's only the beginning of March. Still plenty of time to make a final decision and don't feel bad about holding an acceptance to a school you're not sure about attending. It's your choice and think it through, no rush.

My oh my...I have one busy day at work and look at all the action I've missed on here 🙂.

Good luck to all of you who are hearing tomorrow!!! Good luck to everyone who has interviews coming up and congratulations to those who got good news!!!

I agree, go with whichever feels like a better fit because you're gay to spend 4 yeas there and you need to find the most comfortable learning environment for yourself. Both schools are excellent (IMHO), as are most M.D. programs in the U.S. and all in the state. I'm torn between FSU and USF as well. I like the prospect of doing the 3rd and 4th years at ORMC as that is where I have volunteered over the past 3years , but there is no guarantee with FSU's lottery system.

I like USF's program better overall, however we didn't get to tour any of the downtown hospitals during our interview and our tour at the VA was cut short so I'm not sure what the hospital facilities are like but I hear they are great.

Did you mean to say "You are going to spend 4 years there"

instead of "you are gay to spend 4 yeas there"

  😉

The downtown facilities, TGH in particular, tend to really really nice.

So does Moffitt and All Childrens tend to be. I think you'll like it lifetimedoc.

As per bball,

As I said, don't feel bad about going to FSU over another school because its all about going where you feel most comfortable at and FSU does seem to give off the vibe that they are like a big family and want the students to really work together with one another and so forth. I'm looking forward to going to their open house after Spring break to see their facilities some more since the new building wasn't completed when I last toured that school and that wasn't an official tour but an unofficial thing.

The only thing I never liked about Tallahassee besides the fact that they don't have any hospital right there in town was the fact that after being in Tampa it seemed kind of dirty near the main campus of FSU and all and I don't know maybe if I got used to it, I would have seen it to be different but whatever. I do look foward to learning more about FSU in case I apply there.

I hear from USF today and I am so nervous! I don't do well with the waiting around. When I found out from FSU, it was a complete surprise because they weren't sure when the adcoms would be able to meet (my interview was right before their winter break). I didn't really get nervous until I recognized the area code on my phone while it was ringing. However with USF I am extremely nervous because I know they are going to call sometime in the next couple of hours! Nothing I can do now, but it still makes me nervous!

I'm right there with ya Soccer885! I've got my phone ready and am just at the Student Union eating breakfast waiting for the call. No matter what happens, it's awesome USF calls everyone personally unlike most schools. Good luck! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Edit: now sitting in Biochem II waiting for class to start. I am very nervous.:scared:

I notice that sometimes the time is off as well. I think it depends on what computer I am using at the moment. But I don't know why it does that 😕

SDN is pretty funny like that sometimes. I don't know how some people stay up on here til 4am in the morning. *cough* Random MCAT thread *cough*

:meanie: :meanie:

Good luck!!!

Wow you guys, its almost 11. Man I'm surprised they haven't called yet. At least its only another hour at the most maybe sooner. :luck:

Hmm don't know what time they call, but I thought it was 9-12 usually!! Don't know if that's for waitlists or for acceptances as well. But that was the impression I got. However, I know when friends of mine got calls for interview invites some of those calls were as late as 4pm or so I've heard so who knows!

Yeah, REL told us between 9-12 so I don't know why I asked. When I got the call for the interview, it was almost 1. I let you know if/when I hear something, whether it's good or bad.

I am glad you guys find out today. I interviewed Monday and I have to wait until next wednesday for news. Good luck all

For those waiting on USF good luck today!

UF's hold is a terrible waiting game. You can honestly hear at anytime as they periodically accept those on hold. The biggest movement occurs late April to mid-May however.

Good luck you guys. Its 5 til 12 so I'm going to head to class in 5 more minutes though I'll stick around to see if you guys got any good news.

It's a couple minutes after 12 and I haven't heard a thing yet 🙁
