At least ya'll will be in a normal place when you get your (fingers crossed for you) acceptances. I knew I'd hear between 2 and 5 ish, so I took myself shopping to keep from being a neurotic mess. Was in the dressing room half nekkid when the phone rang...oh boy.
:luck: :luck: a thousand times:luck:

 I should have done something to keep busy. Now I am starting to think it is bad news since they haven't called yet 🙁

Got the call: High tier waitlist. It sounds really promising though so I am content. I really want to attend USF COM and I hope I will have the chance to.

That's awesome. Don't most high tiers get in?

I just got a call too. High tier wait-list! I'm so happy!

Congrats Soccer!

USF is my top choice, so I hope an acceptance call comes in for us soon! 🙂

Yes; historically, most high tiers get in. However there are no guarantees as it depends on the particular year. He said he updates everyone every 4-6 weeks after their interview decision. Things should start moving in mid April and ramp up towards May 15th.

That's awesome. Don't most high tiers get in?

Yes they do. Mr. Larkin made it sound very promising too so I can't complain! Now I just have to sit around and wait some more

Congrats to you too. I hope we get to be classmates together 😀 USF is my top choice too! I love USF 😍

Congrats. I know waiting more sucks but you'll get in. If REL says the chances are high then believe him because he is the most straightforward person ever!!

congrats-I hope to attend USF too. Maybe I'll see you guys next year

How many people are in each "tier" at USF?

Good question! I hope they don't put the majority in the top tier or else I am excited about nothing

I think REL told us at the interview but I forgot. I have an idea but I don't want to say it since I am not very positive.

How many people are in each "tier" at USF?

Not sure, but I can tell you for a fact that they don't put everyone in that position and those that get in usually get in.

I wonder if it is at least 60 minimum if that is the number of people they usually take off the waitlist. But that is speculation on my part so don't assume its the actual amount.

Would a letter of intent matter to USF if you are on the waitlist? It's definitely my top choice.

Don't know, but hopefully REL will be able to answer if he comes back onto SDN later tonight.

However, my guess would be that it isn't needed as you are top tier waitlist and to date every person who I've ever known to be in that position was eventually accepted usually between May and June sometime. I suppose that's why he says mid summer because it can be as early as mid May and as late as some time in June but generally if he says that it means you'll be in then its bound to happen. Keep up your faith.

I talked to REL about letters of intent and obviously they can never hurt, but he said that your rank will not change after you have been voted on. So, basically even though it can't hurt, it's not supposed to help. What happens in med school admissions offices...who can really say. If you really want to write an LOI, I don't see how it could hurt, but since you are high-tier waitlist I don't see the point 🙂.

Congratulations btw Soccer and LTD.

Congratulations again!!!!!! Hopefully I'll be in your shoes in 3 weeks! :scared:

I don't know if what I'm about to say is true and don't take my word as gospel on this issue unless REL confirms, but based on my past classmates and SDN folk, it seems that later interviewees have a higher chance of being put on the higher tier waitlists then those who get waitlisted earlier on in the cycle. I'm going to venture to guess that this has to do with the fact that they have a better idea of who's been accepted and somewhat likely to drop acceptances at USF and also they have a better idea of the applicant pool as a whole. This is speculation on my part though and can't be confirmed unless REL or another admissions person at USF says so.

What I do know is that the majority of my classmtes who got later interviews were high tier waitlisted and eventually accepted.

Gosh, I hope you're right on this one! 🙂 USF is my top choice and my only interview. :scared:

Anyone know when the waitlists in Florida schools, specifically UMiami, start moving? Do they move constantly? or start moving when interviews are done?

Anyone know when the waitlists in Florida schools, specifically UMiami, start moving? Do they move constantly? or start moving when interviews are done?

In most cases, waitlist movement starts after May 15th which is the date at which people with multiple acceptances must drop all other acceptances except for their initial school of choice. If they are on a waitlist themselves, they can accept a waitlist position and then drop the initial acceptance they chose to keep in their hands too but they can't keep the other acceptances they had prior to May 15th.

At that point you'll see an influx of waitlist movement. In some cases, waitlist movement has been as early as late March in some cases to some time in april but in most cases it occurs in mid May after the 15th.

I'm assuming Umiami also has influx after that May 15th date but would encourage you to PM the poster UMMSM who serves as a liason between Miami and SDN for more specifics.

At USF, I know that REL calls either weekly or daily once movement starts going. I think it is daily that he calls between 9am and 12 pm, but perhaps if he sees this he can clarify it.

One more thing, by the time most waitlist movement starts all interviews are done since May 15th is the date when people with multiple acceptances drop the remainder of their acceptances except school of choice. On the other hand, interviews end in April at the latest if not March or even Feb. and before at some schools. So it will definitely be after the interview season is over.

Good morning everyone - BUMP!!!

I'm going to a symposium tonight hosted by my lab and there is going to be food and drinks. Of course, appropriate behaviour and minimal drinking is expected, as we ARE representing the lab 😉

Thank you, I will. I'm bringing a friend, so I don't get bored. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

On this one the Guju Gospel is missing a page or two. Each applicant, throughout the year, is reviewed and ranked solely on their file. The committee is not cognizant of the structure of the list or the scores required to place an applicant higher/lower.

On some occasions, very late in the interview season, IF the class is full, then those voted with very high numbers who would have been accepted, will be placed on the wait list. Obviously their scores will be very high and they will be taken from the list first. But this is just logical.

Thanks for clarifying that. Yeah that's why I put the disclaimer that it was just based on my past classmates that I was speculating. Thanks for taking t he time to post.

Congrats to everyone!!!

BTW REL,

This is why we all love you!! You have got to be one of the most straightforward people I have ever heard of or encountered in an admissions office for med school. 👍 👍

Waitlists dont move until the interviews are done.

That is not true for all schools. Some schools pick highly competitive applicants off the waitlist as other people withdraw. I've seen it happen already this application cycle with people I know, and the schools are still interviewing for at least another month.

That may be true, but he was also commenting on the waitlist at the particular school that he is the admissions director for...

I guess this means that the school in question already has a full class, continues to interview, and rather than keep an opening for an upcoming applicant yet to interview, they fill their opening immediately from the wait list? Certainly I guess this can be done, but it is very unusual. I'm guessing that this is not a Florida school because I believe that all Florida schools still have openings.

Wow, this thread has gotten a bit technical :barf:
LOL

By the way, no admissions staff or office has a particular way of operating 100% of the time. There are loopholes, trust me on this. People have connections and they make progress sometimes in the admissions process even if you are the better applicant. I definitely know a few stories, but would not share them on here, as that would be in poor taste.

Good luck to everyone.

I understand this happens and it's sad. However that's life 👎 Things like that will continue to happen throughout life too.

BTW, I just wanted to say that I was not mentioning people and connetions to say it's wrong or that I'm upset. Lots of things like this happen in life, I totally agree Soccer and I'm very proud to know that I got into med school, because of my hard work and not because I knew someone. Sure I'm frustrated sometimes, because I've never had a pre-med advisor or advisor in general and I've never had any guidance about what to do. I could have been more proactive though, but I guess hindsight is 20/20. All I know is that my mom is a teacher and my dad is a small-business owner and I feel good knowing that I got into med school on my own merit. If I doubt myself at times, it won't because I'm thinking "damn, should I really be here?". 🙂

So, congrats to everyone who has been accepted!!!

I agree completely with you! I am so proud of myself as well. It really means a lot to me to see that I was able to get into a medical school on my hard work and merit alone. I will admit that I get frustrated and annoyed when I hear stories of people getting in by who they know but I think to myself that they must have had somewhat competitive scores still. I have worked so hard to get where I am today and it might not be the best place and to some it will seem like nothing, but I couldn't be happier because I know everything I did was on my own and through my own hard work and determination. And I don't have a problem with people who use their connections for an extra push, I would too if I had connections 😉

I think the most important thing you said was what I highlighted. It's exactly how I feel as well. Congratulations Dr. Zeke on all of your accomplishments!

What a feel-good thread 🙂 LOL

Anyone else feel like ditching work and going to happy hour?! I'm so in the mood to get out of here 🙂

LOL Dr. Zeke!!

So what's everyone's spring break plans????

A couple of waitlistee's, but no recent interviewees. Anyone know how later they offer interviews? Also, whether their class is already full - for both Miami and/or FAU?

Does anyone know who is the head person at FAU? Thanks!

Working on my application for the 2008 cycle. Them thar are fun an' 'citin times... don'tcha know. :hardy:
What about you, Guju?

In response to 1_Accept_Away (for some reason it won't let me quote you):

I called Miami last week to check the status of my application (pre-interview still) and they said they are still reviewing applications and inviting people to interview through the end of March - which means that interviews will probably go into April sometime. I didn't hear anything about whether or not their class was full yet, but I did hear they get pretty good movement on their waitlist in this thread I think.

Dr Markowitz is the "head guy" at FAU 🙂

I just wanted to let everyone know that USF will have a second look on 3/30.🙂
