Fluoride Absorption in Intestine?

How is F- absorbed in the intestine?

The best that I can gather is this. F is one of the few nutrients that is absorbed in the stomach as HF. And F that is not absorbed in the stomach is absorbed in the intestine and is not effected by pH.

Does that mean that F is absorbed in the intestine as HF? What do you guys know about this?

This isnt something that would be common knowledge to most NBDE takers, so Im assuming that this question has reared it's ugly head in past exams, since I doubt anyone could make up something so random as fluoride absorption.

To answer your question (had to look it up), yes, fluoride absorption occurs primarily as HF. HF is a very strong acid, and most is absorbed in the small intestine.
