Hi everyone,

I'm a resident preparing to practice in California, and I have a question about licensing requirements for imaging. Specifically:
  1. Does a podiatrist need both a Radiography License and a Fluoroscopy Permit to take X-rays and use fluoroscopy in their practice?
  2. If I obtain a Fluoroscopy Permit, does that also cover me for taking standard X-rays in the office?
I understand that the Fluoroscopy Permit is specifically for operating fluoroscopy equipment, but I'm unclear if it overlaps with the radiography scope or if the podiatric medical license already covers X-rays.

If anyone has experience or knowledge of California's requirements, I'd really appreciate your input!

Thanks in advance!

Once upon a time, I looked into practicing in California. Yes, you need a separate license to shoot plain radiographs in your office. It sucks because it's basically a doctor tax for pods, Veterinarians, and Dentists.

There is literally a board to contact about this. Do that.

This is the answer I got from them : Holding a valid fluoroscopy supervisor & operator permit allows you to operate and supervise individuals (also having the correct permit/certificate) the use of fluoroscopy units. The requirement is you must have a valid supervisor & operator fluoroscopy permit to personally use the fluoroscopy. Same requirement holds for radiography (standard x-rays).
I confused a little bit because I think holding fluoroscopy permit is enough and it should cover the clinic xrays but it doesn't look like that!
