For those of you who are flying to an interview, are you flying in the day of the interview and leaving after the interview gets over?

I have an interview at Harvard and the latest flight out I can find is at 6:50pm. They recommend not scheduling a flight earlier than 8pm. How long does the day usually last? Does this mean I should stay the extra day?

Also how many nights are ok to stay with a student host?

Thanks!

What time are you getting *in*? Their day starts at 8am, and getting to the Longwood campus from the airport at rush hour could be a pain.

I was finished at 4:30, and I think I was one of the latest interviews that day....but it definitely all seems tied to the interviewer's schedules. I think one girl who interviewed my day had said she had called/emailed about whether she could be scheduled to make a certain train, so they might be sympathetic if that's the latest flight you can find.

What days did you travel?

I am going to arrive the day before the interview at 1:00pm. The question is when to leave. I can leave at 6:50pm the day of or wait and leave the next day.

The factors are:
Would a student host mind having me for two days?
Can I make a 6:50 flight?

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!!

I think you should ask the admissions office.

alwaysangle, how many nights did you normally stay in towns for interviews? Do peolpe normally stay only 1 night?

I've always stayed 1 night. I fly in the night before and fly out the night after the interview. But my interview days end at like 1pm or so. Not 4.

I usually fly the day before and come back the day of the interview. Except for Dartmouth, I opted to rent a car and I had to stay 2 nights, had to drive 1.5hrs to/from the airport.

most people stay one night and bring all their luggage to the interview and leave it in the office. pretty standard procedure. i don't know specifically about harvard so i don't know when their interview day ends, but you should check with the admissions office and see what your timetable looks like.

I fly in the day before, and fly out, or drive, or train, w/e that night. I would never recommend flying in the day of the interview, because you never know if there will be delays, or your flight is overbooked and you rudely get bumped off.

generally they'll ask if you have an early flight, and attempt to accomodate you if you can. Boston is really easy to get around, it'll probably take you less than 30 minutes on the T to get to the airport. Anyway, i'd shoot to give yourself 3 hours between the expected end time and the time the flight leaves. That gives you an hour to get there an hour early, plus one more hour to screw things up.
