Hi PT community-

I am currently working towards a DPT degree, and also have been putting a lot of thought into finally financing my dream of getting my private pilots license (just for personal recreation). I was wondering if anybody had any opinions on possibly combining the 2 at some point in my career. I know there is a lot of need for travelling/ rural area therapists, and if I had my pilots license and possibly at some point purchased an aircraft, if it would be beyond reason to use these means to fly to nearby rural areas on occasion to see patients, or something like that. Has anybody ever heard of anything like this being done, or have any opinions on the idea.

Thanks

Sounds like an awesome idea to me but maybe it'd be a better idea to keep work/recreation separate? I actually was taking flying lessons in H.S. and got up to 20 hours of total solo time so this is something I may get back into at some point too.

I wonder if it would work out better to use your geographical freedom to live and work in more rural areas while using the plane to travel to places of interest (as opposed to living somewhere you like and using the plane to see patients). My understanding is that rural PTs get paid more as a counterbalance to a less than thrilling locale. But with a plane and a small airport nearby, you could reap the monetary rewards of rural practice while hopping around to different places to keep things interesting.

I've heard of folks working 10 hour days four days a week. Crank out the work week, then take 3 day weekends. All the time.

Otherwise, I wonder if the per visit costs associated with travel to see patients would become overwhelming.
