FM to sports med, can you solely do sports med in today's day and age?

For those seeking to pursue a non-surgical sports medicine fellowship, what have been your experiences as far as job opportunities post graduation? I have seen individuals who work solely with an orthopedic practice (this would be my end goal), but I have also heard that that is very rare. Is it highly likely that I would practice some FM and some sports med, or is it reasonable to hope to be working solely in ortho? And just to clarify, I am not merely looking to work with athletes, but in orthopedics as a whole. Thanks!

Depends on who you know and not what you know. I practice in a hybrid setup; primary care sports med. The straight up non-op ortho gigs can be real tough to come by as they’re competitive, but they’re out there.
