FMG path res to GS?

I went to a caribbean school, finished 5th in my class, 225 and 228 step scores, sat for step 3 and awaiting score. I just started path res at a University program but I am wondering if I should have tried for GS. I know alot of FMGs end up doing a transitional year so maybe a year of path will help. Any thoughts on my chances?
