Hey guys,
I don't post much nowadays but I'm nearing the end of my intern year and looking forward to radiology. I do browse the radiology forums here and at AuntMinnie every once in a while and I'm aware of the current market. That being said, I didn't go into radiology because of the money, so I'm not too worried.
My question is more for senior residents and attendings. I'm wondering how I could make myself more successful and marketable when I'm done with residency. I'm the type of person that really likes to be good at one thing and just be ridiculously good at it. It is a given that over the next 4 to 5 years I will be learning everything I can about radiology, but I do like to have a focus even this early on and I've always really enjoyed MSK MRI imaging. I hear that the MSK market is saturated so I was wondering, even if I am ridiculously good at MSK, would finding a job rely more on my network connections than my skills? I think what I'm really asking is, is there a huge difference between a good MSK radiologist and a great MSK radiologist? The reason I ask is that if there isn't, then there wouldn't be a lot of satisfaction from being a great MSK radiologist and there would be no incentive, whether monetary or not if just a "good" MSK radiologist will do.
I realize this isn't a very cohesive post and I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, I'm just a bit worried about putting all my eggs into MSK even though it is the area I like, it may not be realistic.
Any general advice would also be appreciated. Thanks guys.
