I have applied to several tenure-track academic positions in the past two months, yet I have not heard back from many of the institutions. A couple of these positions have been noted to have extended interview invites on that psych jobs wiki. While I know that academic job hunting can be a long process, I'm wondering if emailing the search committee chairs for those who have made contact with other applicants to request an update is appropriate.

Generally, no. If they have extended interview invites and you haven’t gotten one, best not to hold your breath, unfortunately.

Not all places contact applicants to tell them they are no longer being considered. I’m still waiting to hear back from places from my search 3 years ago...
