Does receiving an e-mail asking you to submit LORs and a photo mean that you are closer to receiving an interview at UMich? I just got this request today, and I'm hoping someone can tell me what this means in the scheme of things... of course, this doesn't apply to anyone who received an automatic invite, but any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Yes it does. I was invited for an interview very shortly after I submitted these materials. This was a few months ago, so I imagine their timeline may be a bit more spread out now, but I'd definitely consider this a good sign. It likely means that if you have good LOR's you may be visiting Ann Arbor. Good luck!

I think only 40% of people who submit primaries get invited to submit LORs. When did you submit your primary? I submitted on 10/15 and have yet to hear from them.

Bones, thanks for the info!! Although I've never seen my LORs, interviewers at other schools have commented favorably on their content - so hopefully that's a good sign!! Also, Mythili, I have been complete at UMich (primary and secondary apps in and fees paid) since 9/11/03... UMich asks for LORs separate from secondary apps, so judging from the timeline you've expressed, I'd say you are still in great shape🙂 I'm a Michigan resident as well, if that helps at all. Thanks for the info everyone - much appreciated!!😀

Hi there,

I was accepted to UMich last month and I think that the email about sending LORs + photo is definitely somehow correlated since I got the email on the same day that my status page changed to invite me to interview (which of course I didn't notice for another week).

The moral is: check your status page often! =)

i got my request for a photo and lors about two months before i got my interview invite. i don't know if they lost my app for a little while or if they were having serious second thoughts about me, but just as an alternative to those whose photo requests and invites were back-to-back...

i still got an interview, tho, so don't freak out if it takes a while...

yup, same situation here. i got the request for the photo/lor almost immediately after my app was transmitted. but my secondary was complete ~ 6 wks before the invite for interviewing. but after my interview i was accepted 2 days later. so i don't know that the lag necessarily means "serious second thoughts" or what. who knows how this mysterious process works...🙂
