Hello all,
I will be interviewing in a month and was wondering what the answer is to the question "how does obama's health care law affect dentistry?'

My original answer was that it doesnt affect dentistry and my dentist says so too, but i did some research online and some sites say that it does. What is the most updated answer? and if it does, how?

Do most schools even ask questions on current trends in dentistry or current events? i checked out the interview feedback site on sdn and have not found any school that asked this question. mostly the interviews are pretty chill, is that true?

I would maybe consider posting this question for the dental students on SDN to answer as well. I am curious what people on here will say. I personally am way out of touch on the whole health care issue so it would be nice to see some informed opinions. Hopefully people can remain respectful as well.

thanks denticles!
I read this article already, this is one of the sources that i was talking about. Is this talking about the bill, or the law itself? I think there were several revisions to the bill when it was signed into law. Also, the majority of people I have talked to said the reform has no effect on dentistry though. I dont know who to believe now... 🙁

I'm also out of touch on the whole issue as well which is why i just made a quick search and found that article. I for one hope I dont get asked something concerning the issue lol

It's difficult to say about the bill because as Pelosi said "we won't really know what's in it until we pass it," now that it's passed there is still little reliable information about how it will affect dentistry. I think it provides funding for experimentation with fry cooks extracting teeth and doing fillings... I mean midlevel providers. Also, your taxes as a small business owner will greatly increase. This is already hitting dentists out there, just ask any small business owner. The bottom line is, it affects your bottom line.
