Hi everyone,

For those of you who are in their final year of residency, you may have lots of questions about your future jobs. I am one of them and so far, no one on this site offered anything helpful (well, maybe a couple of people). So I wanted to share some interesting sites with you - I hope you'll find them helpful. for those of you interested in some real salary information, first go to:
http://www.merritthawkins.com/pdf/2006_incentive_survey.pdf

then check out these sites for help with preparing for interviews, malpractice info, etc, etc.

Of interest...try quoting those salary figures back to a Cejka recruiter when they tell you their employer is offering several thousands (ie, 50-75K) less than they have posted as the average salary for your field. They don't seem to have an adequate answer!

When I questioned what I thought was a low salary offer, they referred me to their website - fortunately, I had already looked at it, and had the salaries printed out in front of me. Their "reasons" for why the offer to a fellowship trained surgeon was nearly $75K less than a non-fellowship trained surgeon average salary they had posted were a bit less than satisfactory.

Moral: arm yourself with information on what people are really making in your field - don't just go by what the recruiters or potential employers tell you. It could be lower or it could be much higher than what you hear...you need to have the information to make your negotiations much stronger.
