For people about to start internship... apprehensive?

How are you feeling about starting your residency in a few short months?

Initially, I was pretty excited... but now I'm having loads of apprehension. "Oh God, please don't let me kill any babies" is an ever-present thought in my mind. I have nightmares of being in the hospital on call with 18 admits and kids crumping left and right. Please tell me that I'm not in the minority!

If you're an intern who has experienced this feeling in the past... when does it go away (if ever)?

Yes, this feeling is normal. I would almost be a bit worried if you had no apprehension. The night before my first day was a bit hard - I recommend a good drink that night. However, after about the first week I began to feel much more confidant. I think one of things you realize is that you have seniors there with you all the time - especially in the beginning when you want them. You will find your comfort level and soon not want seniors around you all the time. Just jump right in and remember to have fun!

I'm sooo with you gwydion04! Excited one minute... scared to death the next I'm sure there will be some sleepless nights leading up to the big day. I plan to always have a bottle of red wine handy 😳

Yeah, that desire to read and study that I've been missing all spring? I found it. Nothing inspires studying like fear. 😀

Once I submitted my ROL I had a dream that I revisited one of the cities lower on my list and realized I had made a huge mistake. (Incidentally, this was only true in Dream World.) About a week after Match I had my first, and to this point only, intern dream/nightmare. The thrust was that I had ten minutes left to finish seeing patients and no idea where anything was. I was also stuck on the first of my ten kids because mom kept talking and I couldn't interrupt. Also, for some reason, I was wearing shorts with my white coat, and realized that was a poor fashion choice. I expect them to start back up soon.
