I feel like I see the same 10 people always on here every time I sign on. Just out of curiosity, do you study as you post? Of course there's value in the information contained here, but I would also imagine there are diminishing returns. If time it took to post 10,000 posts were spent studying for MCAT or classes or volunteering, wouldn't that be more productive?

I really don't mean to put anyone down, I'm just really curious about you guys....

I do post off and on while studying. There are diminishing returns in obtaining information, but not in providing other people with the information you've gained. That said, I still spend time on here that would be better spent elsewhere.

gels take a loooooong time to run. and then it just became habit.

I mean, I don't have thousands per say, but I can definitely see how you can accumulate that many posts quickly. Look at the Class of 2004 thread, many of the "high posters", and myself as of recently, gain a lot of posts because we tend to treat SDN more like AIM or Gchat. It's more of a conversation through posts and you'd be really surprised how fast they add up. Craziness! So, I can't give you the actual answer, all I can say is that they add up VERY fast if you use it as a chat.

Meh, I only average like 2 - 3 posts/day. 🙄

I'm studying right now...

I don't have thousands...but I do feel like I am always on here, and yes, I study and post at the same time. It's like a little ritual.

EDIT: To answer your other question, I would probably be more effective if I stayed off, but the bottom line is I get done what I need to.

I don't have a thousand posts

But I also don't study that much (since it's senior year...fluff time)

Class of 2004, huh ;-)

and yeah, that thread is making my count go up pretty quickly.

Were you studying as you typed up that post? If not, you really could have been doing something more productive. 🙄

pfft, more posts = more good luck. just look at ksmi

Amen to that, I don't study anymore so time better spent on SDN helping neurotic premed 👍

western blots and immunofluorescence assays are my excuse, but I'm on a lot either way.

Some of these threads make me laugh or are quite a bit entertaining sometimes.

I signed up the last week and a half of October and I must say I need some SDNotherapy, I am addicted to this thing. I study and on my breaks I just come to SDN and see whats going on. Also, when i am at work and there is no calls, I need to feed my boredom with something 😀...

The people you talk about who have 10k posts can be residents and medical students who probably joined SDN as pre-meds. It really builds up.

1. not everyone applying to med school is currently a student.

2. couldn't you be doing something more productive with you time than judging how other people use theirs?

Agreed with both of these points.

And based on my "encounters" with him, OP is a cranky complainer.

SDN has a lot of good information, but you have to learn how to "move on by" the stuff that is not helpful to you. I have learned that the hard way - I don't spend as much time on "the dark side" as I used to. I try to be helpful, and I appreciate the helpful posters a great deal.

SDN is especially valuable once you cross the threshhold from just another cranky premed to an applicant. For actual applicants - people with skin in the cycle - SDN is invaluable, especially on the school threads. I really appreciate the people who keep those threads alive and informative.

I have a 1.72 GPA so far.

I am proud to say I am an SDN groupie. These are my only "friends" that know the struggle the accomplishments etc. I do not have any real friends in Miami I was laying in bed posting while I was being driven home etc. I am not a student I was just applying working full time shadowing volunteering and being a single mother next year I will still be here but in my class of 2014 forum

😍😍😍

Well, I do have thousands of posts, but I've also been a posting member here for 3+ years. I'm no longer a student... SDN is one of the sites I check after work (can't access the internet at work) to decompress. Just habit, I guess.

My computer's allways on, so I keep an SDN tab open for posting while I'm doing other stuff at my computer.

Most of my post count was generated during my senior year of college, during which I did pretty much nothing.

It is a good study break, it is like checking out the news headlines. 😛

for real, its something to do in between down time of experiments, or when I'm bored/procrastinating after I get home.

Hey, I went from a curious rare lurker to a compulsive poster, questioning if this was affecting my study habits, and my MCAT improved by nearly 10 points... so more posting = more success.

maybe I should have posted when I was studying for the MCAT LOL
