For people who used EK

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I took PR and kaplan and got a 6 in verbal; then I switched to EK and studied on my own and the score went to a 10 (and english is my second language). They're great!

Hey,
Thanks for the respond.
Anybody else?

verbal 7 the first time
verbal 10 the second time so it definitely helped, that's all i used for verbal. it was frustrating for me because using their material i kept missing so much but i guess it helped overall.

I used EK plus Kaplan/PR...EK is by far the biggest bang for the buck for MCAT prep. If you can understand their materials, you really have no need to learn superfluous junk they teach you at places like BR. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten practice tests from a friend and used only EK books.

I scored a 10 and an 11 on the real thing. Some of the techniques I personally use were in EK. I was impressed. I would definitely say they are good for people who want a decent score. I bought the EK verbal book because I was hoping to get at least a 12. However, my own score has not gone up in practice exams implementing their complete verbal strategy.
Have others hit a 12 or above implementing the complete EK verbal strategy?

For those that used EK, do you think there is enough info in the EK Bio, Chem, Physics, and Orgo?

I think when you're talking about verbal, techniques will only get you so far. It depends on what you can score w/o practicing at all (i.e., if you can get an 11 w/o any practice, you'll probably get a 12 or better w/ some of their techniques, whereas if you're starting in the 8 range, it'll be a lot less likely). I personally only raised my score from a 10 to 11 using their techniques, but I had a ridiculously hard verbal section that I panicked on that caused me to rush and not read carefully on later passages.

By themselves, they're probably not enough for most people--there are going to be questions that they won't cover. For those situations, referring to one of those thick course books by PR, Kaplan or BR, or a textbook is good. But for general studying, I really liked the EK b/c I wouldn't get bogged down with little details that probably wouldn't be asked on the real deal. Think of it as a Cliff's notes version of MCAT studying.

Made a 32 w/ Audio Osmosis. See my post in MCAT thread for details.

I agree 100%. To me Kaplan and PR were to basic and boring. EK really took a different approach and helped me increase my score by 6 points. I used the big science workbook from PR and then used EK for my general studies. If I did it again I would definitely start with EK. Never used the Osmosis so can't help out here.

I bought both Kaplan MCAT prep material and Examkrackers Verbal Reasoning 101 Passages online today. I felt compelled to buy both because I've had personal past success using Kaplan and I've heard good things about Examkrackers.

Did you guys buy the 1001 question books as well?
