for the adcoms, would you say that letters of recommendation will never make your application, but can break it?

like good letters of recommendation wont really positively impact your app that much, but negative LOR will negatively impact it a lot?

Also what would you say is the word limit where LOR get too long? for one of my LOR apparently its 700 words. what range do you think is most ideal?

We get committee letters that are pages long.

I would say most LORs do their job in reflecting the strength of their relationship with the candidate. There's no predictive value in letters of recommendation, but a bad letter doesn't come by that often and will get noticed.

Impossible to answer. I've seen three page letters, a few with a single short paragraph.

LORs are not like your essays.

I do take note when someone has great LORs. My colleagues do mention in their reviews that someone "has good/great LORS".

Bad LORs are very rare and can break your app.
