For those applying in 2007

WooHoo! Congrats 👍ChEdog said:Apply Early. With that said, I didn't and I only applied to three schools 😱 . All of my interviews were late in the game. However, I got my first acceptance yesterday to VCOM 🙂 . I'm really excited, and I had to share the news.

Yes, only if you are doing something worthwhile during that time. Med schools don't like seeing a period of down time while you're twiddling your thumbs. However, if you're going to be applying for 2007, you're not late. AMCAS just came out. If you decide to take the August MCATs for the first time and score really well, you could apply for 2007 or wait until the next year and have great scores and be early.n0chi said:so is it better to wait out a year and be the ealier set of applicants the next year?

Personally, I would just go for it as soon as possible, even if it is towards the end of the accpetance season. Even if you are the last person accepted at least you won't have to wait another year to apply. Worse case scenario is you don't get in and you have to apply the next year anyway. This is also assuming that the finances are not a problem, which could potentially change things.
That's if she's in a rush. Better to have sound scores and not have to go through it againd. Its an arduous battle...costly.Triage said:Personally, I would just go for it as soon as possible, even if it is towards the end of the accpetance season. My overall GPA was a 3.7 (major in chemical engineering). I knew my GPA would be pretty strong, but my MCAT was not great (23Q). The low MCAT is one reason I applied late. I was somewhat hesitant with that score. With that said I applied to three schools, 1 MD and 2 DO schools. I recieved interviews at all three. My first interview was at my state MD school. I actually thought the interview went well, but I was rejected about a month later. I had a feeling that would happen b/c of the MCAT score.
I interviewed at VCOM on 2/27/06 and recieved my waitlist letter about two weeks later. The waitlist became an official acceptance yesterday. I'm a small town guy and VCOM just felt like a perfect fit.
Having said all of this, my initial sentiment holds true. Apply early. Don't hesitate like I did. You never know what might happen.

seems like the current thinking is to submit your application in June even if you are taking the August MCAT, waiting on LORs, or need to complete other courses to boost grades. There really is not a good reason to be late.

Um. No. You can always reapply.

Agreed! In fact, going through the reapplication process shows that you don't give up very easily. Some schools like to see that.
Can someone completely explain to me what interfolio does? thanx
