What's the best (most stress-free/efficient) way of getting to campus from NYC? Should I just car service it and pay like 50$ each way? Thanks for any input.

I would say yes, unless you're planning on having a car while you're in the city. I drove down from Boston the night before my interview and stayed in Great Neck (about 15 mins. away from Old Westbury) with my aunt and uncle, but I had a car and the luxury of relatives living on Long Island. Most of the people at my interview had either gotten rides or taken a cab from the city or from one of the nearby LIRR stations (another viable option; probably cheaper, too! just make sure you have the phone numbers of a few Long Island cab companies with you, in case there aren't any cabs at the station).

Good luck getting there!

I took the LIRR for $8 to Greenvale station and then called a cab. ($10) There will not be cabs at the station, so have their phone numbers with you. If the weather is really bad the day of your interview, I would take a car. Even if it is more money, it will be reliable and the trains often are not.
Good luck!

I live in Great Neck. So I really think the most efficient way of getting to NYCOM would be: Take LIRR to either Great Neck or Manhasset station(no transfer needed) and then catch a cab at the station to NYCOM. Ask the cab driver to take Northern Blvd east(well, further into LI) and then after passing the big Toyota dealership on the right, look out for NYIT second entrance on your right. When taking LIRR, remember to take the "Port Washington" line. Hope this helps.

Let me know if you need any further info.

the closest LIRR station is Greenvale (about a 1.5 miles from the campus), so from there you can take a cab...it will definitely make it less expensive than goin to great neck or manhasset...good luck 🙂
