What do you think your odds are that if you interview at Midwestern that you'll be accepted. I ask this simply b/c lots of people interview there, however, for many people it isn't their #1 choice. I really want to attend this school, so I'm just kinda curious. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

In last year, if I remember it correctly, they had about 3500 applicants, 500 interviewed, and 111 got accepted.
However, I think about half of those who get accepted deny MWU and go somewhere else. If I can guess correctly, your chance of getting in after the interview is between 1/3 and 1/2.

the wait list got pretty long last cycle, and there wasn't the same kind of movement that there was in the past couple years. like for every dental school, the competition has risen for dental school applicants, so the quality of the applicant pool is really pretty amazing.

i think the 1/3 is a decent estimate for overall, but if you have better than avg stats it might be 1/2 or if you interview before december 1st or if you have some other advantage it might be better. MWU doesn't offer all of their seats on december 1st but they offer most of them. they keep some room open so that the spring interviews are relevant, which i think is a cool move.😎

Midwestern interviews lots of people per spot, and they do keep plenty of spots open for late interviews. In my interview group in late February, I think three of us are now in the class.

If you get an interview, your chances are good if you do well in the interview and fit the personality of the dental program. Be informed, be totally honest, and let your personal philosophies come through.

Hmm, they are looking for specific types of applicants to fit their program. I can't describe it...but I felt like I didn't fit in at all. I'm sure the interviewer felt the same way. I think they are looking at conservative, older applicants. Then again, I'm generalizing. (however, I didn't feel this "feel" at many other schools I interviewed at) Also did anyone feel they discourage "gunners" or people that want to do "more?" When I expressed enthusiasm at "attacking" research and doing "more" then just getting a DDS, I got a grim answer "We don't do Research." I dunno, maybe gunning is discouraged...

Either way, its a great school with great facilities/staff and it definitely chooses its applicants on personality. Closed file ftw!

They absolutely discourage gunners. Explicitly. We got a talk from our dean on the first day about how that sort of thing wouldn't be tolerated. 🙂
