For those of us "average" applicants complete around the end of September....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its mid-december... you should have heard something by now.

most invites have gone out already

your average school is looking at a stack of several thousand unresolved applications and only a couple hundred invite slots remaining

you aren't done yet, but if you expect more invites you will have to get their attention somehow. write update letters, express interest at your top choices

admissions runs kinda slowly in december, you will have another shot in january and that's pretty much it.

I agree with the above responses.

If this season is unsuccessful for you and you plan on applying again next cycle, you should consider applying the day that AMCAS opens. Your best chances are to have your application complete as soon as possible, I'd shoot for June/July. Good luck.

I'm in a very similar situation, complete most places late September when my boss finally finished her letter but also complete at some places in early Aug when my committee letter went out. I have almost identical stats as you, am a NY resident, and applied to 25 schools (22 MD, 3 DO). So far I've had three interviews (2 MD, 1 DO) with the last invite coming in late October, a few rejections, a bunch of pre-interview holds (likely rejections), and have yet to hear anything from 11 schools. I agree with the previous posters that it probably isn't looking good for us with the schools we haven't heard from, but at the same time, we haven't been rejected yet so there is still a chance even if it's very small. Maybe we'll be lucky and get a few late interviews. Good luck!

Is there any truth to the statement that most of the 40/4.0s are reviewed first and then later in the season they move toward more "normal" applicants? When in the season would that be? I do hope my interviews turn into acceptances, but I never imagined it would be this difficult..

I honestly think this is most likely the case. I applied June 1st, got two interview invites in August and had nothing but silence until last week where I got 2 more invites. I'd be willing to bet they are starting to look at us normal people now...

That would be amazing...

OP, the california schools are really trigger happy with rejections so don't get too discouraged about them at least.

Prospects for CA are terrible at this point. I know Davis is pretty much done with invites, SD is slowing down their notices, and the rest have a couple months until they wrap up sending out invitations. Being complete later-ish isn't ideal, but you could be hearing back before the winter break commences or at least in January. I hope you applied out of state as well!!

Good luck😀

I know that Davis is practically done and UCI and SD are running out of interview invites, but from what I've seen UCLA/USC seem to have quite a few dates remaining. So there's still hope for the LA schools!!
