I had my interview at UVA last week and absolutely loved it. Everyone I met seemed really happy and nice and fun. I only met a few people though and was just wondering if this was the norm there. Also, for those of you that got in there-do you know how much the interviews really matter? My interviews were ok, sort of mediocre, and I feel like I didn't express enough how much I like the school. I was wondering if UVA was one of those schools that gives you the interview based on your application and then bases their decision on the interview or if the interview is just one other thing that they look at. Thanks so much!

usually, your results of your interview are completely random. Enjoy the tedious wait.

Also, med school is much much much harder than applying, so stop feeling sorry for yourself. I mean, it is 3am, it is friday night, and, i am studying.

Did you hear the man/woman? S/he was studying at 3 AM Saturday morning -- it doesn't matter if s/he goes to UVa or not!

... I know this post was totally random ...

But you have to respect a man/woman studying at 3 AM Saturday morning! 😛

I hear that! Seriously, Koalabear, you need to calm down. You've been posting to this forum about this school and that school, worrying about this acceptance and that acceptance and possible residencies. . .chill.

You've had an interview and you loved it. That's wonderful, and I'm serious when I say congratulations, I'm glad it went well. But I think I'm safe in saying that, unless there's someone from the UVA adcom on here, none of us has any idea how they select members of their class. I've no idea how I got some of the acceptances I got, nor do I know why I didn't get some acceptances I was kind of expecting. There is a good amount of randomness in this process, and it's entirely out of your hands at this point. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. They'll let you know what they've decided when they're good and ready.

Keep pulling the thread and the whole sweater will unravel.

I should have told you at the bar, your acceptance is based largely on the interview experience. People with good scores are rejected after interview, and people with low scores are accepted based on their promise for comp-ass-ion. I knew a guy who know a guy who was a student interviewer; the first guy told me.

Good luck.

Oh, by the way, why are you studying on Friday night? That's ridiculous. The only situation where such behavior is even tolerable is the week before the exam (two weeks before if you're a gunner).

I don't think med school is harder than applying. When you are an undergrad you have to worry about grades, writing those damn essays, and stress about travel all without knowing if it will be worth it. In med school, its pass/fail and the school does everything to get you by. You know you are going to be an MD because you are in. To the OP: we are happy and friendly here. You might hear some whining about the compressed curriculm and volunteering, but we are past the first exams and everyone is doing well.

well seeing no one bothered to answer the poster's original question...

Yes it is a great school... with the exception of the biochem course and profs (which seem to suck just about everyone) it has been a great experience so far (I am a second year student btw).

I went to undergrad here as well and can say that Charlottesville really is a great place to be a student period. If you like sports, we have very competitive and fun to watch Division IA teams that you get to see for free, top notch gym facilities (and i mean top notch), great places to eat close by, and a true sense of history you just can't get anywhere.

The Dean usually tells interviewees if u get an interview here, its usually a 50/50 chance that u get it.... but that is in general. If u are instate i think its more like 60/40 and out of state is the opposite.

My girlfriend of 3 years is currently a first year student @ MCV in Richmond. Their block scheduling seems to be great at one thing only: frustrating the hell outta their students and having many simply feel 'burned out' very early on. UVA's schedule is more traditional, with ample time to do your own thing as well. Its a great balance, and if you go here you will not regret it 🙂

if you have any specific questions feel free to ask

thanks so much for your responses drkewl and swimerpaco. they were very helpful! i am crossing my fingers that i get into UVA. it just seems like such a great school. thanks again.
