For Those Planning to Take 2015 Mcat

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Were you planning to take biochemistry? or teach yourself the material? same with sociology and psychology.

Regardless of whether taking the 2015 MCAT, those courses should be taken since schools are slowly making that as a requirement.

Seriously? there are schools making psychology and sociology a prerequisite? why?

It would be foolish to omit those subjects from prereqs if they have their own section on the new MCAT.

I am taking all three courses. My state school, IUSM, is requiring biochem for the class that starts 2015.
I am hoping that the sociology class will be an easy A. I am a psych major so that is covered.

Sociology and psychology are both easy enough it shouldn't be a big deal to fit them in somewhere. They are certainly more interesting then histroy/polsci/english that you end up taking for a Bachelor's anyway. Like PittNeuro said, if they are getting a section on the MCAT it's a good idea to take the class.

I'm planning to teach myself the material, since I hate going to most of the science courses(excluding math) and I'm autodidactic

Honestly, attending lectures isn't worth it since in the end, we'll have to study again. As long as we have solid comprehension skills, self-studying is straightforward and becomes essential in med school and above.

I planned on taking all 3. I'm currently taking psych, and I planned on taking biochem during the Fall semester of my junior year. I do plan on a little self learning before the class just so the class will be more of a review. Not sure how effective that idea will be though

I'm a sociology major, so I think I'm set with that. I am thinking psych this winter and brain + behavior an upcoming semester..maybe this course would help us! As for biochem, maybe fall. We can do it guys 🙂

That's quite the case of the tail wagging the dog. I think what the real question was, why are they necessary?

Psych and socio can definitely be self taught, but Biochem would be much harder to do so.
