For those that had a Buffalo Interview, is it a group interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Is the Buffalo interview a "group interview" meaning that there is more than one applicant in the room while you are being interviewed? I am confused by some of the SDN feedback because I was 99% sure it was applicant and two interviewers?

any info would be nice thanks! 🙂

Hey, I had my Buffalo interview last month. It wasn't too bad. During the initial presentation, they did mention that the interview will be weighed a bit heavier this year in terms of deciding who should be admitted. The actual interview was very conversational. It's three people that interview you, one is a 4th year dental student.

The writing portion is not bad at all. They just want to make sure you can write coherently. And, the case discussion with Dr. Brown is really easy too. There's no right or wrong answer. You just need to justify your opinion. And Dr. Brown sort of guides you through the process. He's really nice.

If you need any other advice, let me know! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. So I guess it's not just a panel of people reading questions off a sheet as indicated in the interview feedback section. Did anything about the school impress you?

Well, the interviewers did have a sheet of questions but they made it very conversational. I guess it also depends on what group you get.

As for my impressions, I liked how all the D3 and D4 students received their own chairs but I don't know, the rest of the school seemed pretty basic. The curriculum is all electronic, there is no text book. You could buy your own books to supplement the information. That could be good or bad, depends how you like to study.

The school is isolated along with the med school from the rest of the main campus. It feels sorta lonely, maybe it was the gloomy weather that day. But, everyone was nice and they do start clinical training early. I think it was this year (not sure though) that they changed the curriculum around-condensed their biochemistry course to start clinical early.

Good luck with the interview! I went through the interview feedback questions and practiced through them. They did ask some of the questions, though they were worded differently.

when you say this, do you mean that it's like a 3-on-1 type thing? like you're sitting against three at the same time? or do they move you down a line of interviewers?

Sorry for the confusion, yea it's a 3-on-1. They all sort of interview you at the same time, randomly talking and chiming in...it felt like a group discussion
