According to AMCAS:
"To designate additional schools once you have submitted your application to AMCAS, you must re-enter your AMCAS application, select the additional schools you wish to designate, and re-certify and re-submit your application to AMCAS. You must re-certify and re-submit your application with the additionally designated schools by the stated deadlines of the schools you wish to add. Deadlines may differ for different Program types."

Does this mean that, if I choose to apply to more schools after I have submitted my AMCAS that my application will be held up while they re-certify everything? or am I reading this wrong?

(I still don't have my complete list of schools yet, but my application is ready to go, and it would be nice if I could just add more schools in a week or two and they would automatically get my app)

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Yes, I was confused about that too, but I don't see why they would have to go through the whole re-certification thing if you can't change anything else on the application.

No once you have been verified you can add schools and they will send your info to those schools right away, no waiting to be recertified.

This is not what AMCAS told me a few weeks ago about a related question. They said re-certification was quick (1-2 days), but not instant. Not sure why it would take that long, but perhaps they're so swamped they don't have the time to click "approved." Who knows?
Anywho, the OP asked an interesting question, which is that during that period is your application held up? I would guess if schools have already looked at it, no. If they haven't, then it might be held up by a day or two.
