hi guys,
i just wanted to know how many people are in that stage where they haven't recieved any news from ABP...no interviews set up...no emails for rejections or acceptances or any other information. I am in that stage and i think the main reason is because i applied late ... is anyone else in the same delusional and confused state as me?

Yes no news for me either. I applied in January so I think it's definitely a late thing. I guess no news is good news until it gets too late. Then it's going to be a hard call (at least for those of us with homes, spouses, etc.)

i don't think its just those who applied late.... i applied to RCSI, UCD, Trinity and NUIG before the November deadline and i'm still in the dark about all my applications....

waiting sucks!

oh no guys its not cuz u applied late. My app was completed on the day of the deadline and the email i got from ABP confirming my app completeion was 1 Feb at 1 pm. i already have got 2 rejections outta the 6 i applied to.
so if anything..u guys who havent heard anything from anyone are in great shape.
G luck

nothing for me either

kind of gave up at this point..

looking into australia now instead..

its realli disappointing at this point..seeing that many people have interviews coming up next week (best of luck for those btw:luck:) but ye...i read sumwhere on the forum that sum1 who applied around feb 1st got accepted in early july...so hopefulli we will know by then 👍

isn't australia even MORE difficult to get in than Ireland?

so how is it that people are putting Ireland before Australia before Caribb?

umm australia is ...well less work to apply, they dont need LOR or any essay. why ireland is put before aus. ? because more ppl go to ireland and most of them return, australia seems like the less treaded path, i have been looking around a lot and very little info on canadians who have returned back home from there(not that there are none, its jus hard to find the info).
oh and also, UQ has 100 spaces for international students lol, and acceptance based on first come first serve basis(as long as u meet the criteria for gpa - what the criteria is.. i have to apply and find out😉)
they only look at gpa and mcats.
applications start may 1 if any of u guys wondering.

I very much doubt that Queensland is first come first accepted if you make the cut offs. Can someone past a source for this that isn't some random dude on SDN?

If it is first come then spiffy, I had my Queensland app forwarded to Australia in mid March via Oz. 😉 But I have my doubts on this. Queensland is a respectable university with a better international rep then many Canadian universities and all Irish Universities. I don't see why they wouldn't be inclined to pick the best not just the first.

Awww... u guys r lucky u can apply for australia...im in highschool and when i called to ask them for more information they said that highschool candidates needed min. 95% to be considered...which im not getting...so ye...either i get into ireland (hoping UCD :luck:) or i stay in canada

This is what I found on UQ's website:

Admissions Criteria
Two components contribute to selection for admission:
 • Performance in the key degree
 • Performance in the admissions test
Applicants are ranked on the basis of their performance in the admissions test only. Offers will be allocated accordingly.

International Applicants

Applications for the graduate entry MBBS program may be submitted directly to UQ and should be submitted as early as possible. Admission to this program is conducted on a continuing basis until the quota has been filled.

I applied in early March... Hope I hear something soon

Forgot to mention that they also said that they rank applicants for interviews solely on MCAT (assuming you met the hurdle requirement for GPA), so it's my guess that it is a rolling admissions basis, but they do it in batches? Check out the australia thread for this and post there to ask this question. It's my first time applying there too, and I feel that it is similar to some of the american schools typed "rolling admissions".

my sources are no one at sdn, i talked to admissions office at UQ med and oztrekk at perth, ON. They said so. if u meet gpa cutoff, they rank u based on mcat and gpa together (and it def is rolling admissions). Phone interviews are then held after this 1.5 interviews for abt 1 spot(or 3 interviews for 2 spots).
they dont pick anyone whose app they read lol, they pick the best outta the ones who apply.
search aus. forum and check a post by Matt. he's the admissions officer at oztrekk. most of the above details are already posted.

i don't know about this... but like i posted above, the university website mentions that GPA is only a hurdle requirement, used only to break a tie between two similar MCAT scores. Assuming that you meet the hurdle, they only rank you by MCAT scores.

i emailed ABP yesturday asking them about interviews and this is what i got back... The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Dublin campus) is in the process of issuing invitations for the next round of interviews which is scheduled to be conducted at the end of this month. The Bahrain campus has tentatively scheduled interviews to be conducted at the end of May. However, specific dates have yet to be confirmed
hopefulli the dates will be confirmed soon :luck:

Thanks, I was starting to wonder about RCSI-Bahrain and was afraid that they had forgotten all about us! 😀

Ive given up on irish med schools ... *sigh*... all i can say is that they lost one relli gd candidate...im planning to stay in canada now...

i just got my rejection letter from rcsi dublin... anyone else hear any news?

UCD rejection last week...no news from trin tho...

Just called Trinity

and the admissions told me that

1) like other applications, mine has been reviewed and notes have been made
but no decisions yet.
2) there is NO waitlist
3) there is a LARGE quantity of students on reserve
4) more offers will be made depending on the acceptances

So what's the difference between being put on reserve and a being on a waitlist?

so do you think that one's chances of getting in to TCD at this point are relatively slim?...
and would the situation be much the same for those who haven't heard back from UCD either?!... in terms of a large reserve and no wait list?

UCD, when i've called, has taken the position that i'm to only deal with ABP.... and we all know the same broken record you get every time you email Mr. Keenan! 😛

Waitlist

--> if there's an opening and you're at the top of that waitlist, then you will be given an offer.

Reserve

--> they have not ranked you amongst other viable applications, it's like as if they haven't even looked at your application and once there's an opening, they'll review all the reserves again & choose.

obviously being on the waitlist gives you more certainty.

I would say chances are very very slim now to get into any of these schools since they've already made their first and second ( if not also third ) round offers. TCD emphasized the word "LARGE" quantity of reserve ...

For those of you that received acceptances/rejections from Galway, was it in the form of a letter or by email? I just got back a reply by email from Galway that a decision has been made on my application and that I will be hearing about it shortly via ABP. I'm just trying to figure out if the 'decision' is good news or bad news, based on the method by which others received their news.

When i received my rejection from Galway it was through an e-mail from ABP. They attached the rejection to their e-mail and it was all very clear, with no ambiguity regarding the decision. I think you have good news coming your way!! 🙂
