Is it necessary to have a car there? I live in Sacramento and I was thinking of flying to the LAX and take a shuttle to the interview and then come back the same day so that I won't have to pay for hotel stay. However, from reading the interview archives a lot of people recommend bringing a car. I don't want to rent a car since I'm under 25 and it would cost a lot of money... and i suppose I could spend the 6 hours it takes to drive to LA but it would be easier for me to just take a flight there and back....so anyway is it that big of a hassle if i don't have a car during the interview?

Thanks.

If you need to get to SCCO in the morning, I imagine there would be some traffic. If you can book a flight into John Wayne Airport (SNA), it's only like 17 miles from SCCO. LAX to SCCO is 38 miles.

If you want my opinion, OC/LA public transportation is a mess. If you fly into LAX, you will need to take a bus(es) to the edge of the county, transfer to some bus(es) on the edge of orange county to get to SCCO. If you fly into SNA, you will need 2 buses to take you to SCCO. They will each be a VERY long ride. Taxi? Forget about it.

If you fly in and rent a car for a day in the morning and drive to SCCO, it may still be a long drive because of traffic (but definitely more comfortable and convenient). Flying into SNA would be half as far of a drive. I think there would be traffic all early morning.

I'm sorry man, I if I were flying in, I would just rent a car for 80 bucks and drive to the school (hopefully when there is no traffic). Actually, I would fly in on sunday afternoon/evening, drive to a nearby hotel/motel, get a good night's rest, drive to scco for my interview, hang out for the day, fly out after traffic or whenever your flight is. That may just my limited way of thinking after living here for all my life but if you wanted to know how one particular local would do it, there it is. That may just be the most expensive way about it, but it's the only way I know how. Maybe someone who isn't from socal but goes to SCCO may know a better way.

🙁
